Would have much preferred to see a more seasoned OC w/ extensive OC experience with at least Group of 5 schools. Scheelhouse will be good in due time, but making the jump from position coach to Power 5 OC seems like a lot to ask.
All the complaining about clock management is silly considering we ran out of downs, not time.
Yes and when you get ahead in the first half, like during the UNI game, you keep your foot on the peddle. No Mr NICE guy (Campbell). Keep working in new offense plays during the game and keep scoring. Saving anything offensively is just a weak position, IMO. Also, I think we do have the players to score 20+ every game. Of course one does need to have some juice in the offensive playbook. Years ago the HC in Iowa City call the juice exotics. Campbell leans vanilla, especially having lost so many close games in the last few years, realizing he is NOT achieving his mantra " winning in the margins".
need an asterisk next to it that says, "iowa state gets the ball out in under 2 seconds on a 3 to 5 yard out or crossing route"
It was either make Scheelhouse our OC or lose him to be the OC for Southern Florida.
Plus we don't want to lose his recruiting power.
I'm sure Campbell probably considered it, but then decided it was just better to piddle around rather then press Iowa's defense.
no, he does not seem like he has the intensity for this game. He is much like Kirk earlier in his career in the Iowa State game. Kirk finally got it, after 2014 they put extra emphasis on this game (former players have admitted it) and they have treated it like an extremely important rivalry ever since.

He's a very good coach who has done serious work in a short time.
Point being if there were improvements it likely meant choosing one side of the ball to improve on and ride it out.
ISU chose defense.
Even the blue bloods tend to need to lean on one or the other; they're just so elite at it that it's beyond being a challenge.
I'd say Robert Gallery planting the Iowa flag at ISU after ridding themselves of ISU's streak in 2003 was a sign it mattered.
ISU tends to play this way all through September before getting other things going; the 'well that's because their conference sucks' crowd will ignore that this is the case for early conference games as well.
Your criticism of Campbell, and others who do it incessantly, is not without merit. And Campbell rightfully deserves criticism. There is no doubt. Perhaps it is the 'incessant' part that wrangles many?
You are able to make your points after each game, and I think that is OK, but then you keep repeating them? Most of us are going to stand up for Campbell. We will criticize when needed, but we realize what he has done in the past, and that he has made (finally) some needed changes this year.
Your perception of things will carry much more weight if things are still tenuous at best, in 2-3 years. And we know that you'll likely say he making the same stupid mistakes in his 10th year, etc. But that is where we are at.
Is Lazard the only “high rated” receiver to really make an impact?
The jury is still out on those young guys (minus Brahmer, you can tell he’s going to be good) but I haven’t been impressed with the wide receiver development.
This will be the 3rd bad season in a row.
We barely finished above .500 with an NFL QB, WR, TE, and RB in 2021.
You've just defined CampbellBall.
Now imagine knowing this, and then scouting and game planning against ISU.
Then you will quickly realize why we lose so many close games that "just came down to one more play".
I know Hutch was a juco guy, but if I recall properly, he chose Iowa State over Oklahoma so I would count him as one of those high rated recruits to make an impact
Finishing 4th in the big 12 and going 7-5 (Pre bowl game vs CLEMSON) is not considered a bad season especially in Iowa State standards

Did you enjoy McDermott's time at ISU?
I want Campbell to get his act together and try different things now.
Let the offense have some actual fun. Make the game interesting to watch.
Be unpredictable and creative.
If he isn't willing to do that, are you really fine with paying him $8 to $12 million dollars for more of this?
Quit lowering standards.
That was an awful year considering the experience and talent ISU had that year.
Just because they didn't meet your expectations does not mean it was a bad year
