Has anyone purchased a new vehicle lately, the prices are off the wall.

Just finished putting new plugs and ignition caps in my A6. Did new brakes/rotors 2 years ago. Mine is sticking around awhile.

Mine only has 35k miles so I guess I am good. A4 was 12 when I traded but that was pre-retirement when I was still commuting to work everyday and popping down to Iowa a bit for family and games. With parents now gone I only drive down maybe once a year to visit sister in the Quads.

I’ve been looking at cars, either used or new. But new looks out of the question. I wonder if auto makers are keeping inventory low on purpose just to keep prices high.

Just my 2 cents. Try to find a lightly used car with a clean carfax. I bought a 2016 explorer in late 2016 with ~16k miles. I paid 27k. MSRP when it was new was 40k (the paper they put in the wi dow was in the glove box). Almost to 100k miles and nothing but oil changes and new tires so far.

Hate the fact the vast majority of buyers settle for basic black, white, or gray. have never owned a boring car color. Though my motorcycle was way to good of a deal to pass up and white was the only color made in '14 any way.
Bestest colors I've owned would probably be British Racing Green (dat old MGB) and the A4's Ocean Blue Pearl. That blue pearl was freaking beautiful. Third place would be the old Miata Classic Red with a Camel (tan) top and Camel interior, that was a striking combo.

good luck with finding that pricing today. that would be a 20k car used now.

I'd be shocked if you could find a 2023 model year with 16k miles that was 30% off the new MSRP at this point in time. I don't think those exist.

Unbelievable, but I got up this morning, turned on Game Day, and started looking over the allocation sheet for the vehicle that we are looking for. Found exactly what i was looking for in Columbia S. Carolina. Got the dealership on the phone, and they said it was available and just came in yesterday. They asked where I was calling from and when I told them Iowa, they said they like to sell local. I told them my son lives right outside of Columbia, and could he come down for a test drive. Call my son, he was free and drove down, tested the vehicle, and we started haggling over price. They started out at 75K which did include taxes, I told them we cannot afford to pay that much, we went back and forth and finally agreed on 68K, tax included out the door price. Son put down a thousand dollars to hold it, and I will fly down on the 25th to sign all the paperwork, see the grandkids and drive it home.

Glad this is over, and it's been a pain in the butt, but at least gave me something to do, and now I can sit down and watch the Clones and have a cold one.
Congrats. I was going to ask if you were dead set on buying new. A month and a half ago I traded in my 2016 Honda Pilot for a 2021 Pilot, pretty low miles, got a great deal. Enjoy that new ride.

If you're financing, you're almost crazy not to buy new right now. Used late model, low mileage vehicles are priced basically the same as new and you'll almost certainly get a better interest rate on the new one than used, as long as you can keep the loan under 5 years.

Even if you’re not financing… when we bought in May the 1-2 year old inventory on the lot was within a few hundred to a thousand of the equivalent new.

Thanks, we looked at the Pilot, our daughter has one, and I drove it out east this summer, but the closest dealers for us if you have any warranty work is either Des Moines or Iowa City. By purchasing a Toyota, they have dealerships in Ottumwa or Kirksville, so it's a lot closer to use.

Blue Streak Pearl loved the color. Sold the truck to a buddy to get the Palisade. So far in our driveway vehicles for me and the wife have been
4 red
2 blue
1 green.

Can't go wrong with Toyota, wife drives a RAV, we've had zero issues with it.

I would never trust carfax, we had a 2011 Ford Fusion, purchased it new in Columbia Missouri, damn thing just ate tires, I was putting new tires on it every year. Took it over to our local Ford dealer, and they could find nothing wrong with it. I told them to take it up on 136 and drive it, every time you hit a bump, the backend would slide a little. It just wore out the tires, they wanted to blame it on Goodyear. I called Goodyear and they said that Ford knew there was a problem with some of them but did not wait to recall them.

Our local Ford dealer gave us tires at cost one time, because they knew I was having a problem and it was the cars fault. Before we traded it off, I asked the gal in charge of repairs, what to purchase, and she said a Toyota, so we did.
Long story short, when I checked the Carfax on my old vehicle after trading it, it never listed all the trouble the car had, even though it had been seen by a couple of Ford dealerships in the area about 8 times trying to figure out the problem.

My wife's CRV lease was up in August so we walked into Smart Honda. While we were there, somebody that had been on a waiting list for the red Touring Hybrid (what we wanted) backed out. So we went from starting to fill out the waiting list to getting what we wanted. Price was similar to lease 3 years ago.

Are you still taking about the Grand Highlander? I can't even configure one that's above $60k. What am I missing?
