if it wasn’t about the money Campbell would be a gym teacher and coaching high school football.Players should get a lot of credit for making coaches look good, but it’s also on the coaches to identify the talent and convince them to come to somewhere like Ames.
That's probably gotten a lot harder in the past couple of years where facilities and coaches alone won’t cut it. Add on the fact that you’re trying to ignore a fan base that has a very vocal minority who thinks they know what’s best for the program.
That’s no different from any other large program but what they have (that we don’t) is MONEY.
It just seems like ISU now has a pattern of coaches who seem to burn out FAST after early successes. Paul Rhoads, Steve Prohm, now Matt Campbell. Hell just look at the way Tyrese Hunter was treated after he transferred to Texas.
People say “they need to suck it up that’s why we pay them millions of dollars a year!” but sometimes it’s not about the money. The culture is what will keep people around long term and right now there are some serious problems with ours.
