Has anyone purchased a new vehicle lately, the prices are off the wall.

Hoping it all works out for you. I had a similar situation in the past. Ended up paying taxes twice and had quite the battle with the dealer to get them back, since they were never sent to my county. Push came to shove, and the county told me there was nothing they could do, that they were mistaken, and that I still needed to pay taxes to register it.

At the end of the day, SC tax rate doesnt really matter since youll register in iowa, but a google search of my own told me 6%. No idea which is correct lol
I was bored last night so I googled the S. Carolina Treasure's office and took a look at the PDF explaining sales tax, according to the PDF, some states like N. Carolina and Georgia that border S. Carolina do not tax the purchase of new vehicles, so if a person is purchasing one in SC, they pay no tax at all, other states like Iowa they collect the tax, and then are required to send it to the county that person will be registering the vehicle.

No, but I bought a used car a few months back and realized I greatly overpaid. I paid $24,000 for a used car and I just checked the same car this morning and they're going for $4k less even with fewer miles. The KBB trade-in value is like $10k less than I paid a few months ago. Nothing I can do about it now, but if I waited I'd have several more dollars in my pocket because prices went way down.

That makes a lot more sense. I knew there was no way that Iowa wasn't going to collect that tax.

But, but you can't be cool in a minivan.
We have a minivan and it is fantastic. Plenty of room, I can haul things, great gas mileage, and most importantly, my kids can get in and out without dinging the cars next to us. The idea soccer moms need a large SUV is because they lack self-confidence.

I would say that is why our local county treasure told me yesterday to have them to write in that I had paid the tax in SC.
I pay down there, and then they send it up here to Iowa.

I did find it strange that NC and Georgia has no sales tax on vehicles, that would shave off 2 to 4 grand off the purchase price of a vehicle right there.

Mini vans are great all-purpose vehicles when you have kids, easy for them to get in and out of, love the idea that they can sit in the back away from the wife and I and listen to their own music or play a movie, while I listen to what I want up front.

An Odyssey has more internal volume than a Chevy Tahoe.

Our minivan is the "Rock and Roll Minivan".

Kids think it's cool. All about marketing

They're just playing games. NC charges 3% (FMV or purchase price I don't know) each time the title is transferred. Georgia charges 7% FMV when the title is transferred

I have bought two new vehicles in the last year. I bought a Trailblazer for my daughter in Granger, Iowa and I bought a Traverse for my wife and I in Florence, Kentucky. My daughter was in Ames at the time and I live in Indiana. These two dealerships did not add a "Market Adjustment", so that was partially what led us to both. The Trailblazer was in route when we agreed to buy it and it took about a month for it to arrive. This was last Sept when no one had new cars. Overall it was a good experience. The dealership in Kentucky had 25 Traverses on the lot which was far more than anyone else. I told my wife on the way to the dealer ship that I didn't care for the grey color and wasn't sure about the black rims. After looking at the vehicles, we both liked the grey Traverse with black rims best and bought it. It was a great experience at the dealership.

Both vehicles have been great.

We like to stop at the Buc-ee’s in Florence on our way to S. Carolina. Nothing like a Buc-ee’s

Fellow Tacoma owner here, at least they got Apple CarPlay in to the the 2021 lol. I kind of get it with Tacomas, they are more Wrangler adjacent than Colorado/Canyon/Ranger adjacent imo.
I've got a 2016 Tacoma and the whole Toyota infotainment is hot garbage. I probably should have put an aftermarket head unit in it years ago but I've just dealt with it. I'm planning on getting a 2024 Tacoma though when the hybrid ones are available in the spring.

Toyota does a lot of great things, but I will agree their Toyota infotainment system is complete trash. We have it in our 2018 Camry and it's just complete crap. Never use most of the feature like the voice activation, hate that I have to synch to my phone for the automatic start, and their current navigation system is a subscription service instead of just using something like Google maps which is just a better all-around system.
Hopefully their new system is better, but it would be hard to be any worse.

Daughter has a 2005 Forester with over 250K miles. Still going strong. Luckily we found a wonderful mechanic who helps us keep it going.

My oldest son has an Acura RDX with 178K and my other son has an Accord with 218K. They just work.

OK boys and girls.

Licensed vehicles are not subject to local sales tax but are taxed under the use tax rules and regulations. The tax is remitted to the jurisdiction where the vehicle is licensed,...ie: used.

Dealers with nearby different use tax collection agencies will register with those taxing bodies to collect and remit to the appropriate taxing agency.

State border communities will do this as expected customer service. Nobody in central Iowa, for example, will collect and remit Illinois use tax for a customer from Moline, IL. That customer will pay the tax when the vehicle is licensed in Rock Island county.

BTW, notice how vehicles are not subject to local option SALES tax. Only subject to use tax rules and reg's.
