I would LOVE this. Especially since we don't seem to have a dominant bell cow back.I would like to see two RB in the back field and run some misdirection running plays to see if that helps get the running game going. But if the running game is struggling, don't keep running the ball! Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
I'm not expecting a W at OU, but I would like to see sustained progress on offense and the defense to rebound after their performance last week

Agreed. My frustration is they keep running what appears to be a read option where they hand the ball off and Rocco pretends to run off tackle without the ball. The problem is Rocco never keeps the ball. So the defensive ends always crash down the line.If there's two backs I'd hope they'd slip one out for short passes that are basically a run and take what's there.
I'm actually surprised more teams don't do this.
You've nailed it on my confliction. I HATE that we're at the point where moral victories are good enough, but we are. To me, that means we look competitive in each phase of the game and keep it close through 3 quarters. Yes, that's nothing more than a moral victory, but I don't know that I can realistically hope for more than that based on what we've seen thus far. If we do those things and show development, I'll be pleased enough. But we need to continue to see growth and development each game. OSU had maybe the worst defense we'll play all year and still couldn't run the damn ball. Growth and development includes coaching staffs that are willing to adapt in-game.1) Agreed but we're not a group that's going to excel at separation. And that's fine. That's where your second point comes into so much play.
2 (#3) I;'m confused. Because you say you hate to think we're into moral victories yet say be competitive, which is basically saying a moral victory? I guess that's what being competitive means to me. Maybe I'm misunderstanding and if I am, that's my bad.

1) Run the ball - but not entirely as we've tried. Do a little more toss or outside along with inside and don't try to run as much. Mix up, use the pass first, but don't abandon it. Just vary it a little more.
2) Jackson, Bitter & Noel. Yes, others will play at WR but while perhaps not the most explosive grouping, I trust them the most at receiver right now.
3) Defensively, I'm not expecting to shut down Oklahoma but I'm hoping for a more crisp return to the norm under Heacock.
4) Final score, I think could be Oklahoma 27, Iowa State 10 to 13. If the offense will show its development continuing from last week, I think it could be closer or even, a chance for a shocker, but OU's defense is a lot improved, their still Oklahoma and its still a huge early road test...
based on all that, I see it being close for a while, then OU pulling a way. I'd love to beat them, especially in quite possibly the last matchup so I hope I'm wrong

There are 4 teams I'd take moral victories against.
1) Bama
2) Georgia
3) Ohio State
4) Michigan
Yes, there are more that could probably hang 40+ and beat us 42-0 but outside of the elite programs, I don't want to hear about moral victories.
We keep hearing the coach speak about the team's "youth." They are 20 pt dogs with absolutely nothing to lose. Give the "youth" a little longer string and see how they react. I am in the belief that Rocco is starting to come into his own and the game is slowing down for him. Give the kid some string and see how he handles it. WTH? If he gets (3) interceptions and we lose by 20 - no problem obviously the experts expected that. We'll see how he learns and responds the next week because of it. Or..... the kid straight up balls out and the trust in him from the coaching staff improves also.
