What do I NEED to see?

1) More passing on first down. Running for 2 yards or less on first down puts us in too many predictable passing downs/situations as teams don't have to respect our ability to run for 4+ yards and or first downs.

2) More play disguising. You know what? There were a handful of times where our sets, motion, and alignment screamed "RUN!" yet we passed and often with success. We need to do this more often, where we successfully disguise our intentions and go against the grain. We aren't good enough to win the line of scrimmage (with the line) but we can have positive plays if we make the defense confused and out of position.

3. Not just pass the ball, but pass the ball with purpose. Use some well designed short throws to help substitute for runs. I'm talking high percentage throws (short throws to TEs or crosses) to gain small chunks. Then incorporate intermediate throws with well designed route trees with possibly some misdirection, getting Rocco on roll outs, for 10-20 yard chunks. I'd also like us to take a hand full of shots down field utilizing some double moves,

4. Start Sanders. Lets see what he can do when given the ball early in the game. If he's able ot make some cuts and hit some seems, like he did in the 4th last week, I think we've found something we can stick with.

5. The defense needs to be more aggressive than it was last week. Bowman had all day to throw the ball on numerous occasions and it works because, well, quite frankly he sucked. Gabriel is definitely better than him and if we give similar time to throw, with OUs superior athletes, I think our defense will have issues getting off the field. Simply playing a base defense minus an unexpected offensive explosion won't be enough to get it done.

6. Our LBs need to do a much better job at keeping their ******* head up and attacking blockers with their hands. Too often they simply ram into guys, with their head down, and completely eliminate their ability to see the ball, shed blockers, and/or maintain contain. Vaughn was brutal last week and if we have any illusions of keeping it close, let alone winning, this will be paramount.

7. Other than Rocco the one pleasant surprise has been special teams. Outside of the Iowa game the special teams have been pretty good to really good. Need to see more of that on Saturday.

8. The offensive line showing some level of improvement. I think we've all thrown in the towel and are resigned to the fact it will be a well-below average unit for the entirety of the season. Right now I'd settle for a few holes, respectable pass protection, and less missed assignments. The latter is where I'm hoping to see some improvement.

I hope the team surprises fans and takes a big step in the right direction with a chip on their shoulder. I also hope ISU football Bs it’s L all over Norman and it’s people and that I only hear Boomer Sooner played < 5 times on the day.
