It's really a stupid rule then even if it's called correctly. I assume the whole point is so you don't trick the other team, but as you can see in that video NW was still going full steam ahead becuase everyone knows it wasn't a fair catch signal. I will say that overturning that one is alot worse than DeJean today.

One other point, it does appear Minnesota might have let up a little, but that has no bearing on anything. Plays like thay happen all the time, especially where the ref can't figure out if it's a forward or backward pass, then the other team runs it in for a TD while the other team is standing around.

Yep then they review the call to make sure it is right.

If it is found to be a backward pass, they let it stand, if it was not they negate it. This happens all the time, they let plays, play out then review to make sure it is right. In this case it was not. So....called back.

The rule is the rule and its been that way for many years.

Lol, ok, what are you, a head official for the NFL? Most fans aren't going to know all the little intricacies of every rule. The State Department should just send you to the Middle East right now since you know everything.

The refs know the rules, and then they review the plays to make sure. Then they and others people explain the rules, so we know what is called and why.

Those that did not know the rule, have been told now many times over that it is a rule, and why, and that it was the correct call.

But you and many hawk fans either still dont get it or dont want to believe it, or just dont want to listen, or just call it dumb, because it was a rule that hurt the hawks, even though it was called correct.

Watching USC reminds me of something I noticed a couple of weeks ago listening to a USC game on XM radio driving back home late.

Their PA announcer is obnoxiously annoying with his shouting and yelling over the PA to get the crowd fired up. This is about 4000 times more extreme than “That’s another Cyclone … FIRST DOWN” or “Okay, Cyclone fans, it’s third down … let’s get loud!” The USC guy literally screams at the top of lungs at every moment that’s even marginally important, like “BLOCK THAT KICK! BLOCK THAT KICK!” dialed up to 14 even on extra points.

I notice it in the background on the TV feed, but if you ever get the USC radio feed it almost overshadows the announcers, this guy is so loud.

I try to know the rule books the best I can, so I can help explain it to people when the time comes and because, as an official myself, I like knowing the rules. If you don’t know the intricacies of the rules, maybe don’t complain about it until you do the research.

This really all depends on the new AD. Technically Brian reports to her.

Going to be a huge decision early on in her tenure. But with Kirk's days probably numbered either way, it seems like firing Brian would be the obvious move for her. If Kirk doesn't like it, he can resign if he wants.

Their football futures at Iowa are joined at the hip. That much I’m sure of. They are a package deal. And it would give Kirk cover to get out before they face a real schedule.

Bolded for truth. Their fans don't want to believe that it was the right call. They want to believe they got jobbed, and they'll deny/ignore any piece of evidence you put in front of them, regardless of how valid or airtight it might be.

And to be clear, it's the way most fan bases would act in the same situation. Their reactions, as hyperbolic and furious as they might be, are probably pretty expected.

Damn it's fun to watch, though, amiright? All the impotent rage. My favorite are the calls for the league to overturn the result or throw it out. Fans desperately, yet angrily clinging to delusions. Those are the Hok tears that taste best.

What’s your point? Just because it wasn’t called there doesn’t mean it’s not a rule. Officials miss calls all the time, doesn’t mean it is correct.

Just watched the end of the Wisconsin @ Nebraska WVB match waiting on the B1G Boring Final Drive to see the Gopher highlights, and their P.A. announcer is super annoying too. Was going to let that pass, but you threw a six-degrees fast-ball down the middle. Totally annoying when P.A. Anouncers go off the rails like that.

Yeah, I don’t disagree. My only point is it’s a bit obtuse to act like it’s some obvious call that would get made by 100% of officiating crews. But to your point, I saw the video that one time 8 years ago something similar happened so I acknowledge that while extremely rare it is possible to make that call. It doesn’t make it less disappointing to me that they changed the outcome of a game over this. I mean, it seems to me like the ratio of how often that call would get made vs not made is not even close to 50-50 but it will take someone with more time than me to go compile how often every weekend something like that happens and isn’t called.
