Yeah, that picked up flat looms very large. ASU should've been in 1st and goal, instead were 4th and 3 and forced something.

That PI pickup completely changed this game, and potentially the Playoff race. Just a monumental shift.

Washington didn't run the ball once on that possession right? And half their passes the WR ran out of bounds? I've had a few drinks tonight but I swear I'm watching one of the worst played and officiated games I've seen in awhile, and I watched the Iowa game today.

I was saying the same thing bizarre play calling.

I saw in Cooper’s post game interview he made similar comments, saying he was just trying to keep his balance and keep from going out of bounds or something since he was so close to the sidelines. I think the reality is probably just that he was full of adrenaline in the moment and wasn’t really thinking.

I’ve spent too much time tonight reading about the play and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just unfortunate. I acknowledge by the letter of the rule that can be called. I think the intent of the rule is so people don’t try to game it and give ambiguous signals that could be interpreted as maybe a fair catch.

But you can’t convince me that any Minnesota player thought that was a fair catch signal and for that reason similar stuff happens all the time and is almost never called - especially not overturning what was called on the field to change the winner of the game when we started out reviewing to see if he stepped out of bounds…
I think you could argue that it should be enforced because it did have such a large impact on the outcome. He got the Minnesota players to let up which gave him more of an opening and swung the game completely. That UNC example you just posted would have pretty much no impact on the game other than putting them back a few yards in their own territory, so there's not much point in calling it.

Also, what DeJean did was way more similar to a fair catch signal than what the UNC guy did.

I saw a field-level video posted by an Iowa fan protesting that DeJean’s waving was nothing like a fair catch … unfortunately not only did that video show his hand waving above shoulder height for a moment, it also clearly showed some Minnesota players easing up and slowing down on their coverage. His waving absolutely affected the coverage team, and this rule is designed to account for exactly that.

So this rando Iowa fan played himself by posting a video that proved it was the correct call.

This should be posted all over social media to help educate the Hoks. DeJean's signal was even more like a fair catch signal than the Badger player's.
Solid burn, except for every one like this you can find 10 examples where they don't call it. The only problem is you won't find that stuff on social media because it's not controversial and nobody even thinks twice about it during the game.

But thanks for "educating" us that think it was highly judgmental and in a huge gray area.

Reminded me of the Paul Shirley blarge call against us in 2000.

As already stated, so if it had been an obvious hold on an Iowa player, it should not have been called because "you can find 10 examples where it wasn't called"? As a BB official since 1984, you call what you see. If you don't see it, well, you just missed it. If you see it, call it. They saw it, they called it.

Don't try reasoning with anyone in here, they are all officiating experts all of a sudden even though 100% of them wouldn't have had a clue before the play.

Ok, let me ask you this then. Normally if you go back to review something like possession on an out of bounds ball, is it normal to look at that, rewind the video 10 seconds and then look for let's say a foul, and then call that? That's pretty much what happened last night according to Feretnz.

How many times has it not been called where it ended with a return for a TD?

Also, "us"? Lol.

You nailed it right there. Listen to the officials.
