I don't know if anyone else noticed this in CW and Ross's pod last week, but they pretty much explain why AD quit KXNO. It sounds like corporate had essentially neutered his ability to hire any help and there was an absurd work load being dumped on for him what was at best just ok pay. He was just over that, and you can't really blame him. I doubt it would be hard for him to find a job that pays the same and requires 75% of the hours. It was also strongly hinted (IMO) that there would be a home for him in the IE podcasting universe if he wants to produce a show again.

I still stand by my prediction that in the next 3 years, Murph and Andy are gone from KXNO and reunited with AD for an Iowa Everywhere show.

That’s not just AD, that’s everyone in radio. It’s a thankless job.

No doubt. I'm just saying that they were giving some really specific examples of how this was affecting his personal life and it became very obvious why he was quitting and did it without specifically having his next thing lined up.

That explanation makes a lot of sense just looking at how long it took the station to get a replacement producer for The Drive after the previous producer left months ago.

Ha Boston Bobby finally called back to talk to A.D.
All these years I assumed Boston Bobby was a bit.
When they played the "best of" his calls last week, I was waiting for them to spill who it really was at the end.

I'm still a little skeptical. Seems like quite a coincidence that they magically got him to call back on AD's last day.

Does anyone have any inside info? Is Boston Bobby a real person?

My initial thought was iHeart is trying to end local control of KXNO again and this still lines up with that well.

On a related note, was out running errands yesterday and was surprised the Vikings game wasn't on KXNO. Was some national Fox show. I'll be bummed if I can't hear PA let loose on random Sunday afternoon drives

Edit: yep no Des Moines listed anymore, boo

There are Iowa related things I feel like I miss out on being in the far northern hinterlands of the state, but I sure don't mind getting the Vikings on TV every Sunday and being able to get PA on multiple radio stations.

I'm pretty sure he is a real person. If you ever been to Boston there are a lot of what they call "Massholes" around like Bobby. Not that Bobby is an a-hole per se but he is definitely a piece-of-work for sure.

I should go listen.

I know in some of the "goodbye's" posted MANY shared all the extra AD did behind the scenes, lower pay, etc. (as if they were affirming he was making the right call for his time/money).

I too think CW has it figured out for this market and could see how they could "create" the local market with the local talent as so much more is consumed via pods. Heck, even Murph and Andy i normally listen to on the POD vs live. And no restrictions (can curse, etc) unlike over the air and while CW has a studio space, so much more flexible to have personalities use technology vs live in a studio.

I can’t believe there is any way CW/IE can make it worth their while to move M&A to a podcast. Although I have absolutely no idea what they’re getting paid right now. I enjoy their show even if it veers away from sports for a lot of the broadcast.

I had never heard that Hassel bit calling channel 5. That was outstanding.
They put that one on ice for over a decade. Actually pulled the podcast down that same day and refused to put it back up even while people asked for it. Apparently Channel 5 management was not happy about it and complained to the KXNO/iHeart brass right away that day. AD must've just figured they were past the statute of limitations on it and said f it.
