I added (Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turn Overs - Fouls) / Total Minutes Played

This will upset some posters with how high BRE is rated. Just my made up Index after 2 games. Ward is low, but many of the things he is doing do not show on the stat sheet.

High School Coach used to use something similar.
Pts + 1.5Reb +2Assist +2Steal + 2block -TO -Missed FT

2X (assist/steals/blocks), gave a little more credit to the hustlers, vs the token kids that just chuck up shots......
"hey look at me, I scored 7 pts, ..............................and shot 13 times". :)

I have tried reducing points by half to put more emphasis non scoring effort. Top 2 stayed the same.

Need to add something to the formula that puts Keshon at #2, because he is clearly our 2nd most valuable player out there in the first two games.

Player ratings per KenPom- I think there is a bug at the top with the "Go-To-Guys" but I like to pay attention to the ORtg.

List of Offensive Rating from best to worse for top 9 players playing.

R. Jones- 169
Lipsey- 156
Ward- 155
Momcilovic- 150
King- 146
Gilbert-139
Watson- 139
Biliew- 109
C. Jones- 58

I'd expect R. Jones ORtg to take a dip once the competition picks up. Same for Ward. These lower level schools just don't have anyone who can bang around inside with these guys.

Lipsey has been lights out for us when you look at %Mins w/ %Poss with his offensive rating.

Top 4 are fine, but its clear there are flaws when Hawley shows up 5th.

Maybe need a FG%/FT% element, too.

KenPom has Ward rated higher offensively than Momcilovic? Lol.

If you expected a big guy to come in and immediately look at home, I'd say your expectations were off. Clearly he's not comfortable yet, but he was better in game 2 than in game 1, and will be better in game 3 than game 2.

He’s definitely searching for his role. I’ll be interested to see what his defense looks like when we start playing warm bodies. Long season ahead.

Its skewed a little bit.

you have to take into the fact that Milan is playing 71% of minutes whereas Ward is only playing 45%. But in those 45% of minutes, Ward is playing well.

I can see where a freshman would struggle with the aggressive nature of TJ's defense, particularly when they are nervous and still thinking about what they are supposed to do. Very easy to be trying to be aggressive and then fouling in the process. Controlled aggression is definitely a skill.

Omaha’s 2 buckets last night were really good low post moves. The head fake then dunk and a nifty step through from the baseline for a layup. I think Omaha is struggling with the short shifts that TJ has been using with his bigs so far. He and Watson get frequent 2-3 minute runs. For a guy used to playing the whole game in HS and having huge expectations I think Omaha is pressing. I’d like to see TJ commit to giving him a 10-12 minute run in the next game to get comfortable.

I’d be interested know if Milan coming in and exploding game 1 changes the plan at all. He’s going to be getting 25+ minutes baseline every game now and I don’t know if that was part of the math going in to the season.

Still interested to see if we start crashing the offensive glass or if we keep things the same with how good our defense is. Good problems to have but there could be a lot of tinkering during the pre-con.

Not really a "bug" per se, just a quirk of non-conference basketball data. Pav and Fish have both played enough to just meet the 10% of minutes threshold, and it so happens that they have had high usage rates when they've been in. Assuming that they play little-to-none once the competition improves, they'll drop down to the benchwarmers section.
