To me this is the most concerning thing. We have been good at getting to the line but you have to make teams pay or you're going to lose a lot of games.
Especially when “getting to the line” is supposed to be a major component of this team’s offense.

Biggest problem: when you are shooting 25% from 3 maybe not take 34 of them
Seems like teams clogged up the lane the last two games. Today, once we lost momentum, I think we got frustrated with that and started driving to dish out. Got a lot of open missed shots out of that and some turnovers too. Probably need to drive/dish/drive/dish and get that extra pass that gets them scrambling.

We had been shooting about 15-17 threes a game, and that seems about right

Last thing I am going to add to this before I move on with life.
I feel the best when the ball filters through Tamin and Milan. Everyone else should be on the same page about that. NOthing worse when you have an elite shooter two passes away and that one guy always holds it too long or doesn't even look at the big picture.

we have a lot of players that need to settle into their roles and once those roles are established, be good at them.

Right now it feels like we have 5 guys trying to make the rotation and they are forcing things or trying to hard.

I am not sure what to do with Watson and Omaha. you would think we would need those two with how physical and athletic they are. they will have to play in league play, but so far I am concerned.

need ward back for sure...

Just my opinion.

night all :)

That game is just always so wild. I feel like anything can happen.

And we had a long streak of home wins in that game even through some bad teams. I'd never assume that game is a loss

This is just not a very good team right now. It doesn't mean they can't improve as the season goes on, but right now they stink. To me, so far it is a carbon copy of last year. Lipsey still can't shoot to save his life, and forces a lot of bad passes. Gilbert reminds me of Holmes last year. Holmes was a better shooter, Gilbert is better at getting to the rim. We don't have Osunnyi back there to protect the rim and rebound, so our interior defense is worse.

Same dreadful shooting. Same pathetic FT percentage, around 65%. Terrible in game decisions, probably going to average over 15 turnovers a game.

New players, same result. What is the same? The coaching.
Yeah that is the concerning part. This team isn’t any younger or ‘newer’ than past TJ teams, yet it’s already in mid-season slump form. Meaning, the team is making the SAME mistakes that the last 2 teams made when they were slumping. Fans are frustrated because, while there are some new players, the style and themes and mistakes are the exact same.

I would argue that the strength of TJ’s staff is how they’ve been able to build a team in the offseason that has essentially gelled by November. It’s been really incredible. We have seen that the last couple years, and TJ should get a ton of credit for this. We all HOPE though that this team just simply haven’t gelled yet. But what if this is them gelling? What a bummer to ponder! I really didn’t think we would walk away from this tourney 1 play away from 0-3.

Maybe he just can't create like Georges but I'd like to see more Milan getting touches at the high post or even just post up touches. He's been great shooting the 3 but not sure I want to just be content with him as a catch and shoot guy

Testifying
I get that but it sucks to lose to a very average in-state school like iowa.
Like it or not Iowa has been making the tourney, so I wouldn't say they're average. Once they get there they massively underperform though.

My Houston reference was more so based upon defense, something Iowa doesn't usually play well at, and Houston is excellent in, and we play them twice. If we try these hook shot passes, they'll run wild in transition.

The massive amount of dribbling won't go well with Houston either or most teams with a pulse, see: the past two games.

Honestly, I think they are all playing hard. The defense these last 60 seconds had been really tough. I think they've played badly for a lot of tonight, but the effort has been fine. They really need some plays to put them in the best positions for success.
They think they are playing hard. In reality they are giving effort, but playing hard is more than that.

It would matter more if our conference wasn't loaded. It's not like the Big 12 won't provide opportunities.

We could play all scrubs in non conf and still end up with a top 30-35ish SOS.

The worst schedule in the entire Big 12 last year was 29th.
That’s fair. The opportunities with be there. I don’t see a team right now that I’m confident in with those opportunities though.

One thing about today's NCAA, this will always be the case, so can never really be an excuse, right?
Correct. We aren’t any younger or newer than we’ve been previously, and many, many teams are structured this way due to the Portal these days.

Of course, as we saw with some of the teams just below us last year (with the big 12 being slighted a bit), at some point the committee still factors in W-L, probably more than it should.
