100 schools is approximately the P4 plus the Big East plus the better non-football members of the A10, Valley and WCC.

Honestly, I don't really think Charlie Baker has much say in the matter. There has long been talk that the schools were going to break away.

I'd be surprised if it was 100. But that's a really weird cut off line . But we shall see

It's not accurate. This account is very anti-Big 12 and has acted like an insider throughout the last few rounds of realignment, despite being less accurate than say MHVer3.

This is someone with an agenda wishcasting.
The guy is a knot head, in love with the B1G, and being anti Big 12. I do believe he is a Husker.

CW and Blum go really in depth to this topic. I encourage people to listen to the Wednesday pod

Citing a Tony Altimore chart as well. I don't know why that guy hates the Big XII so much, but whatever. I swear the way those two accounts compliment each other it's got to be his secret alt.
Altimore was wrong about basically everything in the lead up to the PAC implosion. Dude makes the dumbest arguments ever.

I found this article by writer Jason Gay in the Wall Street Journal this morning on comments made by Charlie Baker of the NCAA and thought it was extremely interesting and terrifying (for Iowa State Athletics). Baker comments about a subdivision of schools who can afford to pay players which is the line that concerned me most for ISU.

Hopefully, the link will work for you.

This. I have cared FAR less about other conferences because of this separation happening before our eyes. College Football fans follow teams they have a personal connection with (alumni, grew up nearby, watched growing up, etc). I will ALWAYS be an ISU fan and will follow them to whatever league they fall in College Football but I promise I will not watch the Super League because ISU is literally not in the same league. If I ventured to guess, a majority of College Football fans feel the same way with their team.

If ESPN/Fox thinks this super league is going to be like the NFL and fans will pick a team from this new league, they are grossly mistaken.

College football used to at least try to maintain the illusion of a meritocracy.

The playing field was never even, but in theory, players couldn't be bought and transfer from team-to-team openly. A player could get a full-ride scholarship offered from any school and any shenanigans had to be done under-the-table.

There was also an attempt with the BCS to use an unbiased computer program to put the two most-deserving teams into the national championship. Now there is very thinly disguised (actually pretty much overt) collusion between media partners and conferences with a rigged playoff system.

Maybe none of this is worth saving....

"Here's how it works. Make a play. Get paid," he explains.

Busch then lays out a situation where a player makes a big play, and the Jumbotron immediately flashes the player's Venmo account on the screen, allowing fans to donate in real-time and then the screen tracks and displays the total donations coming in live for all to see."

It's a more complex problem than just the NCAA proposal, although it would be a good first step to ending the insane conference realignment we've experienced. For example, If you are paying players, there will need to be a collective bargaining agreement of some kind, there will be winners and losers as there are in anything (and the biggest brands could be the biggest losers if there are things like salary caps and shared income at that level). At this point it is probably 80-20 it never happens, and I'm afraid things will need to get worse before they can begin to get better.

Offense skill players will all want the ball even more, defense players not playing assignment football and bail to try to “make a big play”, more pressure on special teams players….this would not help team unity.

maybe donate to offense, defense or ST as wholes, but not individuals…too many locker room issues as a result. With no rules this (NIL, portal, realignment) needs to fail fast so that a better system gets worked out soon.

SEC will take this a step further than allow you to Venmo the opposing team’s players so they can decide which bus they want to get on after the game.

This is the last gasp of the NCAA, trying to stay relevant/involved/profitable before the power conferences figure out they could run football and basketball tournaments themselves and make all the money without the hassle of NCAA regulations.

Yes, and to some extent I think everyone recognizes that some central body needs to step up and organize this mess. I think the choices are basically the NCAA, Congress, or the ESPN/Fox/B1G/SEC cabal.

The NCAA is the least bad option.

The main issue is that only the third group has any leverage over the schools.

It seems like I am always having these moments nowadays whether it's watching the pregame shows for a few minutes, the games themselves or interviews, where I realize that the whole idea of watching college football just seems silly.

I was watching a DeBoer interview, and the subsequent ESPN guys talk in detail about everything, and the level of seriousness in everything just struck me as completely ridiculous, and I shut it off and decided to go do something with my day.

I think it's a sign of getting old, or maybe it's all this nonsense, but the fact that all these people in college sports, from coaches, to talking heads, and even the players just strikes me as ridiculous.

Man, 100 teams would be perfect for breaking into 3 or 4 different leagues, with yearly relegation and promotion!

Just think - 2 top leagues with 30 teams each, and a bottom league with 40 teams.

Every year the lowest 5 teams drop to a lower league, and the top 5 teams move up. Give some kind of monetary prize or award to winners of the lower two leagues. Also, try to systematically allow for 1-2 rivalry games that are played every year even if the two teams are not in the same league. Maybe even give the winner of the lower middle league an auto bid to the playoffs?

I think this would actually be really engaging up and down the board. Every team has something to play for all season long. And the teams in the lower division really aren’t any worse off than then bottom feeders of current P4 leagues.
