Bill Self has really grown on me over the years. You hate him as a fan, but hard not to respect him. And he gives Hilton the respect it is due.
Same. Feel like he always finds great things to say about either the coaches, players, Hilton, etc.
I respect someone that had dominated, and I mean dominated the BigXII for so long that takes time and finds ways to give respect to others.

I'm not even sure if 10 years ago I'd feel the same about him as he came off as more arrogant although I don't recall anything post-game from him that was bad.

But he's one of the grandpas of the game now and those types tend to find enjoyment from the successes of their opponents.

Watching the Bill Self post game and this exchange made me laugh:

Uncle Randy: "Why is the Big XII so good?"
Bill Self: "Well the teams are real good"

Randy may or may not be a good person, but his inability to ask a coherent meaningful question is baffling and frankly both embarrassing and entertaining.

In the post game with ISU players yesterday, his question: something like 'That was the most three pointers ISU has made since TJ's been here. Why?' was as cringe as when CFers say a player needs to start making shots. Like it's some sort of decision.

I was warming on Self until Lipsey got punched in the face. Then I cooled on him when he thought it wasn't a flagrant. Then I warmed on him again after we got 5 points out of the possession.

ISU and KU have much tougher schedules this year than TTU, for example.
Maybe Big 12 tournament seed tie breakers should be based on conference strength of schedule so that conference standings will reflect this at least a little.

Sure, the computer numbers are there. But outside of Houston, KU and @TCU they haven't really beat anyone.

/s

I still think 13 would be a hell of a jump. I think 15-18 most likely. And I still kinda expect to be disappointed on Monday.
Besides the #2 team at the time and #7 team at the time? That's a pretty good resume.

Everyone enjoy the win? Good because it's time for your morning piss in your Cheerios time.

We shot out of gourds last night. Nearly 50% at high volume. Our average is 36% if we shot out normal average it would be 9pts less which is significant.

I'm not counting that last 3 made by KU since it wasn't contested and the game was already decided. In my mind the margin was 7pts. So on a normal night of shooting the game would have much closer and we probably would been down at the last couple of possessions. We might have still won but odds are we would have lost.

The concerning part is our defense continues to break down in the late stages of games. KU has the best starting 5 offensively in this league and Self makes the best adjustments. So we can't expect our defense to always get stops on teams like that but it's starting to become a trend.

Aside from our out the norm 3pt shooting and an amazing individual performance from King we probably lose this game.

We won't be #13, jumping up up 10 spots is huge and we were favored in this game.

Have you ever watched pre-game warm-ups?

Players will drain most of their 3s when nobody is in their face. Kansas picked their poison and decided not to play perimeter defense and we made them pay for it.

As for the defensive breakdowns, K-State threw up bunch of garbage 3s, it wasn't so much our defense. You're right we did struggle against TCU and Kansas at the end, but it's almost like both of those teams are really good and were going all out to get back in the games.

Now I'll poop in your bedsheets after you've pissed in my cheerios. Self is the best X's and O's coach in the game, so it was never going to be easy even when we were up double-digits. Their game plan was to clog the lane and make us beat them with the 3, which we made them pay for.

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time with yesterday's game.

Reading is fundamental.

It wasn't a rant on Bob, more of a rant that Ward should be playing more (which should come at Bob's expense). Bob still had his limitations, which is in no way a "rant" on Bob.

Simply put, Otz's decision to take Ward, who might actually be our best defender this year, out in those last 2 minutes was insanely stupid. Being up 9 we needed our best defensive unit on the floor, particularly our best shot altererer and Dickinson defender. That's not Bob's fault, thats Otz's fault.

Thankfully TJ WAS smart enough not to play Pavs and Omaha. Had Pavs played 5 minutes yesterday we likely lose. KU would have ran circles around him and likely netted a +10 point differential (or more) in that time span. Easily his best coaching mive and something that should continue the rest of the year.
Disagree on Ward. If you take what Ward does by itself he is better defensively from a box score perspective. He makes the sexy defensive plays. He has better agility to guard farther out from the post. No denying that.

But to say Ward is better doesn't take into account what BRE does. He is better than Ward in positioning. Understanding where to be and placing his body in the post. He was better than Ward defending the post last night.

Now the reason TJ plays both is the combination of both is what makes it better. Imagine you have to play against BRE who is fundamentally sound, strong, unrelenting, and then have to face Ward an athletic freak.

Best thing would be merge them into one person but you can't so TJ does the next best thing, plays them both and together they make a pretty good defensive post.

So we won, but we could have lost. Got it.
