That doesn't make the win less enjoyable but its VALID for it to be a cause for concern that we had pretty poor ball movement and struggled at preventing the first step (on D) in back to back games...at home.
What about Kansas being really good aren't you getting? You guys act like our D needs to shut down the 96 Bulls in order to win a game now.

Like I just pointed out, we a actually moved up a couple spots this week in defensive metrics.

It's ok, we can have some poor 10 minute stretches and still be good. Other teams in front of us actually have to play games also so it's not like we are going to drop 30 spots in 7 days.

You know we are up to #2 now in ADJDE on Torivick. So despite how bad we played on defense this week we actually moved up. It's almost as if we are playing good teams.
I was going to post something about this but got distracted with the other posts.

With that offensive performance I believe we may have cracked the top 50 in offensive rankings? Or we are really close. Being top 50 in both offense and defense becomes very significant in March.

It didn't feel like we played or looked that great defensively. KU shooting poorly despite having good looks boosts our metrics without it necessarily being "great defense".

Our best defense of the season came against TCU. We moved our feet extremely well, almost never gave up the first step, rotated superbly, and flashed to the shooter better than we have all season. I'd like to think we can consistently play somewhere between that and what we saw this week. The first step and closeouts were issues this week and I hope we clean that up a little going forward.

This is the first time I had to pull a madguy30 and look up someone's posts.

I don't know why this board has their panties in a bunch over what you said. I'm elated we won yesterday, even moreso because I went to it (7 hour RT drives are always better after a win), but can readily admit this game was only won because we shot lights out while KU shot poorly. That doesn't make the win less enjoyable but its VALID for it to be a cause for concern that we had pretty poor ball movement and struggled at preventing the first step (on D) in back to back games...at home.

As you said, winning by shooting 30 3s and making nearly half of them is NOT sustainable and now how we will win basketball games. Tre being on fire (and being smart enough to keep shooting) and having ALL of our players who shoot 3s shoot 40% or above (Jones technically didn't but was close) do so in the same game is an improbable combination of events. Over the course of the season those things will happen, on both sides, and we were fortunate to do enough (other things) well to win the game.

I will say that game, shooting aside, is a loss 8-9 out of 10 times it's played given ball movement and individual defensive efforts. With that said, KU was also "lucky" to play as well as they did, on both ends, for an entire game on the road. Unfortunately (for them) they played their best conference game only to lose.

Being honest, if most everything else played out, they made more of their open shots, we didn't, and the shots were closer to season average based on shot quality, I think we lose that game by 10 points. I will also admit that we also shot a VERY high percentage of quality 3s, meaning looks that were open, in rhythm, and of high quality. We rarely take such a high percentage of "good" 3s which likely played a factor in so many going in.

It's because you and Bosco make such a scene out of not really enjoying the win, as much as you claim you do. It's the attitude of "Don't get me wrong, we played a great game, but..."

In your particular case, it's because of your reputation you've built up the last couple of seasons. Personally, I think you're very well-written and I think you do know basketball, but whether it's intentional or not you come off as remarkably arrogant.

Just enjoy the win without having to nitpick every time you think someone was out of position on defense.

36th in offense now. I don't think you could ask for anything more. To have the #2 defense while our offense is now good is what all of us have been dreaming about the last 2 years while wondering when he would finally try go get some offensive players in the system.

Hehe. I'm not concerned about the flak I take. I find it amusing that a lot of people are upset by it. And that's why I posted it to give a different perspective.

Why do you think people are getting emotional and incorrectly thinking I'm upset that we won when I not once said that I was?

We had the same issues against KSU. After watching the TCU game, where they also have pretty good athletes, our foot movement was subpar and really wasn't a byproduct of how good KU is (or isn't).

When did I ever say or suggest KU isn't a good basketball team? With the emergence of Furphy they are better suited for a run if Harris is consistent and they stay out of foul trouble. I thought Furphy had the best all around game of any player, for either team.

Your first line is nothing but contrived hyperbole.

Sorry if I give you the vapors.

Do you prefer that everyone here toes the party line and say yes it's awesome Everytime?

Or should this be a place where adults and give different opinions and discuss?

This would make a very hard team to beat in March.

Kansas State threw up a bunch of garbage 3s that went in to get back into the game. They have a top 30 defense who really frustrated us in the 2nd half of that game also.

Our defense was fine the other night, it was our offense that night that looked disjointed.

Sigh...you asked me why posters are responding to you and ZRF the way we are and I gave you an answer. If you don't like the answer then don't ask the question.

I don't think this board should be an echo chamber, no. I'm totally fine with discussions and different opinions, as long as they are offered in good faith.

But beating Kansas yesterday was awesome in every sense of the word and your arguments about why it actually wasn't so awesome are absurd and silly.
