Well, Drake is Des Moines' Home Town Team. :)

Seriously, why watch those other station clowns? KCCI gives the best coverage of ISU sports IMO. Last night, the order was KU @ ISU Men (intro to the News and intro to Sports), UNI @ Drake Men (good game), Nebraska @ Iowa Women (Iowa is a WBB school), Iowa @ Michigan Men (they worked it in) and ISU @ WVU women (probably would have been higher with a W). Also, in between the News and Sports, the weather guy was wearing his Cardinal and Gold ISU tie.

Let's Go St8!

I like that KG gets more aggressive going to the hoop late in games. By that time we are in the bonus and it gives us production on offense where we struggle in the half court. He's like a closer at the end of games.
Often, end of game options really comes down to having someone able to take the ball to the basket, KG's strength. His athleticism and body control almost always results in the ball getting to the glass and since a defender usually helps, there's an opportunity for a tip if the shot doesn't go in.

It's also nice that there's another player who can do this almost as well, Lipsey.

Next football season there will be an implied expectation for Abu Sama to rip off 70 TD runs on the regular and and then a lack of understanding as to why it doesn't happen.
The narrative will become, "He performs well only when it snows," and ISU needs to focus its offense more toward snowstorm situations. :)

Our transfers' ability to handle the ball and drive was maybe the most important part of their additions when compared to last season's team. Jones, Gilbert, and Lipsey can all bring the ball up the court, run pick and roll and get to the lane. Holmes and Kalscheur really struggled to handle pressure or penetrate. Our guards aren't perfect, but it's an upgrade, and we're starting to see more of the benefits.

Today was special. A true national TV game with their A team announcers. The CBS bball theme song. Tons of talk about us in studio on both espn and cbs. And a Top 10, old school rival with Hilton in all its glory. We ARE the talk of college bball today and we deserve it.

Top 10 wins happen for us more than they used to and that's awesome, but they should never go unappreciated. Freaking awesome effort by this team and coaching staff. As Eric would say, every day is a great day to be a Cyclone but some are better than others.

Cheers to the poll
Great crowd yesterday in Hilton..... meanwhile in Iowa City: 1000009081.jpg

They only played 6 players in the 2nd half. They couldn’t foul us too often. McCullar and Adams both had 4 as it was.
Beyond that 6 they have nothing..I can't believe Kansas has issues with depth. The transfer portal and nil have kinda bitten them. If I could NOW get paid by anyone why would I want to spend my college days in Kansas? Granted you have the tradition and all that, but you're still in Kansas. What did they lose, 7 players to the portal last season? Why would that many players leave??...hmmm

That would be 3 more points but potentially be more because of missing the front end of 1 and 1's.

I prefer not to look at our FT%. I'm just hoping that the sheer volume of FT we take will off set the bad
I do apologize for being a “Captain Obvious” but I don’t believe that the poor free throw shooting can be ignored if the Cyclones are going to achieve their full potential this season. Winning teams make their free throws or run a greater risk of losing. That is generally a pretty established fact in basketball. I am not criticizing the players or the coaches. I’m just stating something that is usually pretty obvious. I do hope that the team improves on this aspect of their play.

If ithose 3-6 more free throws would have been made, there is a pretty big difference in the game flow with ISU having a bigger lead in the late game. If they are going to work hard on drawing a lot of fouls by driving hard to the basket , not making the resulting (totally uncontested) free throws doesn’t help score more points than the opponent if the trade is 0 or 1 point per possession when the opponent is getting 2 or 3 points. That’s how most teams try and at times succeed in making up deficits late game. Send the opponents below average free throw shooters to the line and make them earn the points. If we aren’t a great shooting team from the field, then the free throws need to be made to win games. We won’t be able to get deeper teams than KU in fowl trouble.
I am also a bit skeptical that we can turn over opponents at a high enough rate to get enough possessions and thus points by shooting under 70% from the line.

I agree but at this point I'm time I don't think they'll magically become 75% (currently they are below 70%). Maybe they can be average which is around 72%. It's a wart and I hope it doesn't come back to haunt the team at critical point in the Tournament.

2 things I took away from yesterday’s win 1) we didn’t have to get out to an early lead to get the win. 2) we were able to take advantage of the other team taking something away (driving and interior scoring). Our big wins were due to paint domination and turnover runouts. KU wasn’t going to allow that and we have weapons to take advantage of what they did give us.
