The ‘68-‘69 Drake Bulldog team: McCarter, Wise, Draper, PullIan, Wanamaker. Won the Valley and took UCLA and Lew Alcindor/Kareem down to the wire in the NCAA semi-finals. As I recall televised games back then were rare for all but the “blue bloods“ prior to the NCAA tourney, and that was far from comprehensive, so I followed them mostly through the sports pages.

Crucify me, but it was probably Reggie Evens and Luke Rekker….Grew up a bit of a Hawkeye fan.

My college years in Ames were bleak. Pretty well disengaged from college basketball except for March.

And then I suppose it was the Royce White tournament game against Kentucky. Been hooked on the cyclones since.

Guessing we're about the same age. Stinson and Blalock are the first two players I remember being a fan of as a kid, but Rahshon Clark is the reason 13 is my favorite number.

I also remember listening to a lot of ISU basketball on the radio with my dad growing up and Diante Garrett and Craig Brackins were fun to root for, we were just so bad that it was tough to be "hooked"

Chris Babb was an underrated Cyclone IMO. I used to think I was so cool doing his "feed me" thing he'd do after making threes playing pick up ball. The teams with Royce and Tyrus McGee is probably the first I can remember being truly hooked on ISU BB. I made sure I watched just about every game then.

I also have vivid memories of watching the women make the Elite 8 in 2009 and being a huge fan of Alison Lacey. Then watched a lot of ISU WBB when Chelsea Poppens played since she was from my hometown and worked for my parents while she was in high school
Damn I appreciate that!

Larry Bird at Indiana State. For Iowa State, it was Johnny Orr's 1985/86 team featuring Hornacek and Grayer.

Totally agree with this post. I was a kid. Listened to every game on my transistor radio and kept my own stats. Went to a friends house to watch them play UCLA.

The nationally televised prime time 1968 UCLA-Houston game at the Astrodome with Lew Alcindor and Elvin Hayes got me and thousand of others hooked on CBB.

Michael Jordan got me addicted overall to basketball. For college, I grew up in Eastern Iowa so I was a Hawkeye fan. BJ Armstrong was my favorite as a kid. My dad was an ISU alumni so we did watch ISU games. I enjoyed the Hoiberg teams but Dedric Willoughby (RIP!) is the player who brought me over to the good guys.

As a high school kid, and then an undergrad at a small college, I really didn't pay much attention to college basketball. For whatever reason, my friends and I were much more into the NBA. I came to grad school at ISU in 1987, and got basketball season tickets because my colleagues said it would be awesome...and they were right! That was the year of the LaFester Rhodes game. And Jeff Grayer was there.

Actually, it was probably more the atmosphere of the games that got me hooked.

This is my answer too was a 90s kid in Chicago and my dad went to notre dame and hated it and my mom went to illinois and hated it, so no college team allegiance as a kid. But watched every pro and college game that was on t.v.
