I don't think a 7 is happening. All three reg. season games remaining as of right now are Q1.
First round in the BTT is likely Q2.
I dunno. I don’t want shooting teams like Bama and BYU in our bracket. Not that we can’t beat them.

their floor is a maybe a 4, probably a 3. no way they could drop to the 7 line.
i think the ceiling is a 1 if they win their last 3 regular season games, tie for a share of the conference title, and then win it all in KC, but those are big ifs.
Even at that point we’d probably still need Arizona, UNC, and Tennessee to help us by losing several times. That said, I don’t think having a share of the Big 12 regular season title is necessary; winning out should be enough in that scenario.
My updated bracket for March 1 as of the games completed last night.
- My original bracket had Wisconsin as the 6-seed in Iowa State's pod, but due to Florida already playing Baylor and Alabama, I had to re-arrange a bit. But something to keep in mind with Wisconsin's profile worsening in the last few weeks that a rematch from two seasons ago is possible.
- Iowa State is as close to Kansas yet in my projections for that last 2-seed. If ISU wins out and KU loses to Baylor and Houston, they'll pass Kansas. But do be aware that Baylor winning out could easily have them pass Iowa State.
- If Kansas beats Baylor Saturday, it improves ISU's odds for Omaha and decreases their odds for a 2-seed.
- If Baylor wins, Omaha competition gets stiffer while 2-seed odds increase.
- If ISU loses at UCF and Baylor wins, that's a worst-case scenario for both.
- I keep seeing national publications have Marquette getting the Midwest over North Carolina or Tennessee (if either or both of them are 2-seeds). Unless Marquette passes UNC or Tennessee in the seed list, based on what the NCAA bracketing principles say, UNC or Tennessee closest regional site is the Midwest. Chapel Hill and Knoxville are closer to Detroit than they are to Boston or Dallas.
- This also related to ISU. If ISU gets up to that 2-seed line, say goodbye to Detroit and say hello to Los Angeles or Boston.
- This is not ISU related, but we're entering a situation where it's feasibly possible for a potential Pitino vs. Pitino matchup in Dayton. I have both New Mexico and St. John's in my Last 4 In group right now. Typically, they have the first two of the Last 4 In play each other and the last two play each other. I've never understood that; it should be 1v4 and 2v3 but whatever. Either way, the NCAA should ignore all bracketing principles to give us father vs. son if both schools are in Dayton.

I get your point, and I see a lot of fans saying this, but just wait until we tip off in KC. There is something about postseason basketball that amps up the stakes and intensity. I suspect a lot of fans who all of a sudden don't care about KC will be biting their nails and melting down if we don't win.
Personally, I'd prefer that we win at least one game. I love the conference tournament, and that would be another Q1 cherry on top of the resume.
No way if we lose the next 4 we are a 7. I think our floor is a low 4/high 5.
AFAIC regarding the rest of the BigXII season and conference tournament, everything now is gravy. This team has already surpassed expectations, so I'm not going to add any more for myself.
I couldn't disagree more. Context matters. Preseason expectations don't at this point. If we lose the next 3, I would be extremely disappointed, and this board would be a disaster.
Except Michigan State won't be playing in their backyard this year. Huge difference.

Wisconsin went into free fall the entire month of February and only dropped from a 2 to a 5 seed.
An 0-4 finish and we're still likely a 4. Maybe a 5 at worse.

Bummer that Dallas isn't possible because it's so cheap (and high quality) and easy to get into.
There really is no correlation between having conference tournament success and flaming out in the NCAA tournament. These are all 18-24 year old kids and playing one or two more games and then having 5 days off to recover isn't going to be the reason we have success or get upset in the tournament.
As a fan, I want to will the whole damn thing in KC and will be cheering like crazy for that to happen. But if we lose in our first game, it doesn't mean we'll make an Elite 8 or vice versa.
I think that preseason expectations shouldn't account for current expectations. It's almost like "hey, just happy to be here". We have an incredible opportunity at our fingertips and not achieving that would be disappointing. That doesn't mean the season was a disappointment though.
