I just spoke with someone on the committee, a mid major athletic director. He spoke with Jamie this morning. Said we are still a two seed but our non conference schedule was terrible. Apparently Jamie told him we knew the team was basically rebuilding and needed an easier schedule to start the year

Again, Iowa being terrible and a Terrible DePaul are out of Iowa States control. You swap those games out and our non con resume looks much different.

All of a sudden, I am hungry for Burger King.. ;)
That was a sad situation, but I remember chuckling when the Ames police officer was quoted in the paper saying something like "He is lucky. Our offices are trained to shoot to kill" I was thinking how bad of a shot must the cop have been to go for a kill shot on a 6'7" dude, but only hit him in the arse! :jimlad:

Didn't play pickup with anybody on the ISU b-ball team. I lived in RCA and sometimes would go over to the "Women's Gym"?, which I think is now the Forker building?, just to shoot. I glanced in and to my surprise, there were a bunch of people shooting. I kept my head down and went to one of the back empty baskets and did my routine. A couple guys came over and was stunned that one of them was Terry Woods. Little did I know I entered the end of ISU's basketball practice.

"Let me see your ball man." It was Terry Woods so gave me ball. He took a shot from top of the key - and missed. He glared at me, "Something is wrong with your ball man." He then, along with the rest, walked out. I was slow to comprehend what he said until he left. If I was quicker, I would have said something like, no, it is the person shooting. Even though he was a ****, I still cheered him on during the b-ball seasons.

I assume JP has been pretty outspoken about our resume with the committee so we at least have that going for us.

I have some painful and good memories from playing pick-up with team members:
  • Stayed one summer in Ames working and every afternoon played fairly high-level (I was easily the weakest or second weakest player on the court most of the time) pick-up games on the big court in State Gym (way before the current renovation). You were allowed to stop and step outside and through up over the steps facing Beyer, but you had to come back right away and finish the game!
  • I had to guard Big Vick in one game in the post. What a laugher as I am only 6' 3" (in shoes) and that dude has a hind end as wide as an aircraft carrier. There was no way to get around him to stop the entry pass and he could reach about as high as I could jump. Thankfully he never used his patented chicken-wing hook on me.
  • Was playing with T-Woods and I was in the post. The defender overplayed me to the topside so I reverse pivoted on the baseline to be open right under the bucket. Before I was fully squared around, T hit me between the eyes with a bullet pass--new meaning learned about "keeping your eye on the ball".
  • Set up to take a charge from Ronnie Harris and he planted a knee in my chest, knocked the wind out of me, dunked and landed straddling me. He looked down and said, "Ain't no charges in pick-up white boy." Kindly he didn't step on me.
  • While I was not a great jumper, I had a quick release and high arch on my shot from the corner of the lane. Hit one over Lafester. Two trips down the floor later I got the ball (amazing because there wasn't a lot of passing in those games) in the same spot and he came flying at me with his long arms shouting and I got it off just over his finger tips. He turned to see it swoosh then looked quizzically back at me as we trotted down the floor and said, "Damn white boy!" Neither it nor Ronnie's comments were derogatory racially, just and identifier as one of the only caucasians on the floor.
  • One of the worst experiences was having to guard Ray Harris. For those of you too young to remember, he was about 6' 6" and super muscled, but he sweat more than anyone I have ever seen. He had to change shoes every couple of pick-up games because he would sweat through them! He was scary looking but had this very high pitched voice that didn't match the mean looking physique.
  • Broke my wrist playing in a game with Fred (not his fault). I got a rebound but was falling backwards so threw it towards the rim so I wouldn't travel and put my hand down to break the fall...big mistake!. I missed, but Fred rebounded and put it back in and we one the game but that was the end of my pick-up games for a few months.
Nice. You played against some great players

i played some pick up games with Tinsley. i remember guarding him and he told me what he was going to do, asked me if i understood, i said yes, and he told me to repeat it back to him, i did and he said on three. he then did exactly what he said to me. even thought i knew what he was going to do i could not stop him. he was so fast. one of the steps was he was going to put the ball between my legs. i remember thinking why didn't i just put my legs together.
Played with Fizer a few times. Rule was he couldnt go in the lane … his “team” won easily every time.

The one year I played middle school basketball I went to an ISU basketball camp. Cato had just gotten to campus in '95 and came in and played against us - breaking the backboard in the process. I've never felt more inferior and inadequate in my life:)

Evan Miya ran his first bracket sim today. And we got stuck with Nevada which is not a good match up.

If you plan on sharing all the advanced metric dire outcomes you can find for ISU over the next couple of weeks, I hope you can provide some links or context with those. I tried finding what you were talking about and this is what I came across. This would appear to be a different model run of what you copied, so I don't know if yours is some kind of aggregate or just its own separate run. Either way, we need to let Evan know there is a hard ceiling at sweet 16 for ISU until we have data that shows otherwise. We all know that elite 8 matchup against UCONN isn't possible with the way the team is playing right now.

How many games does KU have to lose before they’re not a top three seed? Just seems that everyone is going out of their way to keep KU there so they can play in Omaha. Makes me want to vomit.

That’s probably his 2nd sim. I copied his 1st sim for today, which was the only one he put out at the time.
Trash my take all you want. But the person who runs CF is of the same mind as me.

I’m not a doomsayer, sweet 16 is great!
If our offense doesn’t go back to the way it was, we aren’t making a deep run & I feel 100% confident in saying that.
