I know Lunardi is a clown but right now he has us #2 in the east versus Soith Dakota State then winner of Texas A&M and Clemson). Thankfully in Omaha but that’s not a great bracket.
We would house Clemson imo if we got them. South Dakota State is a pretty salty 15 seed

Originally, I thought Seed Line. But @NiceMarmot set me straight that it still goes off geography at the regional level (just like the first weekend is) as long the overall 5 seed isn’t with the overall 1 seed and all other rules remain in place (no other 4-seed or better teams from same conference in the same region, etc.).

We can’t go to the South since Houston will be the 1 there. Since, Boston is closer to Ames that would be our preference versus LA (even though it really isn’t). So our only hope to avoid the East region would be to leapfrog Marquette to get preference for Detroit over the Golden Eagles.
Have to remember Marquette can't be in the East as well.

Sub regionals (Like Omaha) aren't assigned certain regions East/Midwest/South or West until selection Sunday. That path will all become clear then. Until then, people are speculating or predicting how that will work out. Whether we end up in East/West or Midwest, the first 2 games will be in Omaha...providing we win game 1 of course.
Okay, that makes more sense now, they do it on selection day. Some of the descriptions before yours sounded to me like you aren't put into a specific region with a specific path all the way through the bracket until the 3rd round.

Lunardi balancing out the Otz coaching resume storylines all the way to the 'ship!
  1. SDSU in the round of 64.
  2. McDermott in the Sweet 16.
  3. Have to wait until the Championship game to challenge The Mayor.
Not seen: UNLVRebelGirl. Cmon, Joe. That's a missed opportunity.

I like our chances against Purdue as well as any potential #1 seed. They haven't faced an aggressive defense in months unless Maryland counts.

Not reassigned, 1st weekend sites aren't geographically locked to a reguon. They seed the top 16 then assign sub regions according to geographics of the top seed. 1-16 they go down the list and send them accordingly. We've locked up Omaha as it isn't the closest destination of teams ahead of us.

Our Region is determined by conference alliances.

We can't go South with 1 seed Houston.
Marquette can't go East with 1 seed UCONN.

To get the MW we must be seeded ahead of Tennessee and Marquette.

I don't know if this is feasible but winning tonight combined with a UNC at minimum opens the conversation of us getting the final 1 seed. Regardless our 1st weekend would be in Omaha.
There is a chance that the regions aren't balanced. If you take bracket matrix as the seed line, you would have Purdue, Tennessee, Baylor and Auburn in the MW. That is 1-5-9-16 for a total of 31, so that can't happen. Also can't have Auburn and Tennessee.

Going through the exercise of bracketing is really complicated this year.

Is the schedule set for the games in Omaha as far as if the 2 seed would be in the 1st or 2nd session on Thurs, or does that get decided by committee at selection time?

Lunardi has us in the Midwest now....Omaha then Detriot. Purdue's region. This would about be the best case scenario in my mind.
Wonder if he has us as 5 or 6 overall or if he had to shift stuff around for competitive balance

That's decided after selection. TV viewership drives the train for that.

I understand that from a business standpoint, but still think it's s***y for fan travel/planning.

Basically they take 1-16 and assign them in order to where is best for them geographically without pairing them with a conference for. Basically that effects our placement with us not pairing with Houston and keeping Marquette away from UCONN.

Tell me how many teams have won back to back titles the last 50 years and I'll tell you that playing UConn may not be as bad as some think.
Actually if you look at the frequency it happens I'd say someone is due to do it.
