What is the deal with these stoppages for injuries on defense? did they change a rule?

Refs can stop play for an injured player at any time.

I think they stop the play in a situation like that more often than not anymore. Definitely seems like they used to let the play go on a lot more.

That's the rule. Otherwise teams can just fake injuries to prevent fast break points.

Yeah traditionally they only call stoppage if you slow down and run offense.
