The only thing that matters is crushing the opposition. If you don’t have the ability to play at a level that TJ demands, then you can always hit the portal. Get used to it. Learn the new names every October when the season starts. Expect excellence, win conference championships and go deep in the tournament in March.

Oh, and beat the crap out of Iowa.

Are you really comparing Rob Jones to Fizer or Niang? Hell Paul Shirley and many others had better post moves than Jones. Loved his hustle, but no coach ever in a scouting report stated we have to stop this kid or we are in trouble.

Hustle and heart can only take you so far, Jones maxed that out, but in the end, skill generally wins out.
No, I am comparing him to Jacobson, Homan, Doerfeld, Marsden, Hill, Ross, and others. Shirley was an NBA player.

Ok, here's a middle age guy who remembers what life used to be like about to go on a rant.

I've personally spoken about NIL, transfers.....etc to a HOF football coach, 3 Big 12 players themselves, a guy who owns a professional recruiting service firm in Omaha, and hundreds of other fans of college spots, and absolutely zero of them like anything to do with this current landscape. Literally zero!!!

So why if everyone hates everything about this is it allowed to continue this way?

You really cannot be serious, as a 5th year senior Rob averaged 7.7 points per game, now look at Horman, as a sophomore he was at 7.5, a junior at 11. 1 and a true senior at 13. 6. He still holds the school record for career blocks. How many of the others you listed were starters like Rob was, they were role players, nothing more.

This one hurts mainly because of potential and I truly thought he wanted to be here. I think his defense was a huge reason for lack of pt. I hope the best for him and I know we’ll fill his spot with someone who will be ready right away.

Look at Homan’s career FG%. He was career 44% shooter. He was a tough defensive player and good rebounder but not a good offensive player. Jones shot 47% last year and many people here wanted to chop his head off.

Probably not a great fit anyhow. Seems TJ and other programs might be better served going after upper classmen in the portal. Might see a trend of someone going to a school for a year or two to develop and then transfer somewhere new for playing time.

Probably. He would've had more playing time and would've figured it out. Athletes figure stuff like that out. His biggest problem IMO was nerves. Too bad he's gone. I think he would've taken a huge step for ISU next season. Oh well. Excited to see who ISU brings in along side the big from Charlotte.

Where would he have played more with that kind of rawness?

This is the point. Most freshman aren’t going to play on good teams. But they want the money at big schools. Kids need to understand there sitting for a couple of years. They also need to understand there not as good as older guys now. They will be older guys someday. But not willing to wait there turn on good teams

In the future, I do not think most freshman will be with their original team for more than a year or two. They may transfer a couple of times before they get more playing time. Then it will be easier to become established at a team and earn more NIL $$$. For most players, the freshman year may be like playing in the NBA G league.

because the NCAA "amateurism" model isn't legal anymore. It's that simple. It doesn't matter how many HOF coaches or players or recruiting services or fans don't like it. The court system isn't there to gauge how many people like rulings. They're made on the basis of law.

Was not a good offensive player but still averaged more the Jones did his final 2 years and was a little bit below that as a sophomore. Jones average per game was 2.9, to 5.7 to finally up 7.7 as a senior. If his replacement cannot average more than that be game, the team will struggle.

Who else did he consider before choosing Cyclones?
Can't remember who his "finalists" were but according to 247 he had offers from:
  • Illinois
  • Georgia
  • Arkansas
  • Nebraska
  • Western Kentucky
  • Kansas
  • Michigan
  • Texas Tech
  • Tennessee
Nebraska was his last official visit before committing to Iowa State.

Good lord, are we seriously comparing Homan to BRE? Homan was 3x the player, this isn’t even a conversation.

BRE was damn good on defense. Total team player that did the dirty jobs well. For this team this year I don’t see Homan being as good of a fit as BRE. Him and Hassan were a presence on what we accomplished with our defense.
