If you had told me before the draft we’d get JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner without trading away next years 1st, I would’ve asked if I could smoke whatever you’re smoking. Obviously way too early to tell how it turns out, but hard to be mad about the night

QB of the future and a potential All Pro at EDGE to replace Hunter. Use the cap space now to fill out the roster. Some wanted to not have the 2025 First rounder as well to get McCarthy.
Yeah, they could be big players in free agency next year. This year might be a bit of a wash, but if McCarthy is even an average starter, you have to figure they'll be set up to be pretty decent.

Turner is a good get. I’m not fully sold on McCarthy.
Hopefully Darnold will play more like the 2nd pick in the draft that he was and finally given a chance to play well with quality offensive players. McCarthy can sit and learn.

Not to mention we have comp picks likely coming for the free agents we lost this year and a ton of cap space next off season
And possibly Atlanta’s first round pick next year, depending on what the NFL decides to rule for tampering

So according to the Rich Hill Draft Value Chart...

Trade with Jets:

10 = 369, 203 = 5
Total = 374.

11 = 358, 129 = 18, 157 = 11
Total = 387

Trade with Jags:

17 = 296

23 = 245
167 = 9
2025 3rd (mid-round) = 50
2025 4th (mid-round) = 23
Total = 327

Who knows what the 2025 pick values will be. Obviously the better the Vikes do next year the worse they'll be. If they can finish in the top half of the league that Total value could be 300 or less.

Not to worried about the trade value for Turner. He is a Top 10 talent, so they still got a bargain, in my opinion.

Honestly, tonight could not really have played out better for the Vikings. Get your QB without having to give away the farm. And then get arguably the best defensive player in the entire draft at 17. And STILL have your #1 pick next year - which could end up being near the top 10 again.
I've been very critical of Kwesi to this point. I give him major kudos tonight. Sitting pat and not jumping the gun and still getting your guy at QB took stones. And then being aggressive and trading up for Turner. I'm very happy to eat crow tonight.

I think the Vikings get an A grade.

I like both picks, but damn... Kwesi is trading all of our draft picks away. I think we have no 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks next year, and no 2nd or 3rd round picks this year.
Nothing personal here but I listened to people ***** for years about trader Rick and now they do the opposite and still the ********.

I wasn't really trying to prove any kind of point by posting that, it was more informational than anything. And I didn't think the differences were all that egregious.

I've seen people on Twitter saying with all the trades the Vikings did they essentially lost a mid 1st round pick or gave up 3 1st round picks to get Turner...which I think is BS.

Not sure what charts they were using (the one I saw that said they gave up a mid 1st round pick wasn't the Rich Hill chart) but tonight's trades on the Rich Hill chart equates to losing a late 3rd round pick...and if the Vikes finish top half of the league next year, a 4th round pick.

If you would've told me before the draft tonight that it would cost a 3rd or 4th round pick to get JJ McCarthy AND Dallas Turner, I would've thought you were high...and I would've said, yes please.

They both suck, in my opinion. If McCarthy is a bust then Kwesi will be out of a job in a couple years.

At least they did not overpay. McCarthy is a great prospect. After Williams there are questions about all the QB top 6. McCarthy only lost one game in college. TCU game in last year’s CFP semifinals.

Find it interesting that Penix is considered a steal and a perfect pick for the Raiders at 13. And not a viable option for the Vikings if McCarthy or Maye are not there.

I do not want to be like the Carolina Panthers who are watching their #1 pick go to the Bears to select Caleb Williams while getting even more draft picks in addition to keeping their own.
The tragic part out Carolina is the coach wanted Stoud but was vetoed. Then gets fired for the front offices incompetence.
