Anyways it doesn't matter, if they updated the unis because the players wanted to then it's fine.
But after seeing all the other schools uniform re-designs I think the only reason we changed is because Nike wanted to cut costs by simplifying their production line and told all the schools "ok you know all those design features that made each teams uniform stand out from the others? Yeah we're not doing that anymore cuz it cost money so here are your options: stripes, different size stripes, or no stripes. and go f*** yourself" (I'm not into conspiracy theories but this one I believe lol)
Agree, SOMEONE is doing some major, major cost cutting. I actually thought it was us being cheap, but Nike is doing this for everyone.

IMHO, Nike by far still makes the best uniforms. I seem to be in the minority here - I think our 2 B/W combos (including what was released today) are by far the “best” of this latest iteration. The stencil I-State on those icy whites looks f***ing fantastic. The home and aways seem to have reverted to McDonald’s red and yellow, which is a massive downgrade.

Waiting for gold helmet...

View attachment 130329
Soon, from me. I would like the several shades, that I eventually come up with (most anyway), to be actual viable options for an darker gold addition. So I'm taking my time and am in no hurry.

If we just get a current gold helmet, I think it will be a huge letdown. It's too bright. Probably similar to what our new gold pants might be. [Those should be good with the white jersey, and that's about it.]

I don't think you are far off.

You are correct, IMO also. And the thing is, even with Nike's simplified templates, our uniforms could still look amazing IF we utilized a darker gold.

The mocks I am working on all look amazing, with a darker shade of gold. And @SolarGarlic will be happy to know (I hope) that all the gold shades I eventually will reveal, are not as dark (by a longshot) as the first attempt I had about a month ago. That first mock reveal was an accident. [I hadn't intended that gold to be that dark.]

Is Nike preventing ISU from using a darker shade of gold?

I would think not, but who knows. IMO, that comes straight from the AD, Pollard.

I'm hoping Jamie will finally see the light as he is nearing the 'sunset' of his AD career at ISU (5-7 more years ???). If not, we may have to wait for a regime change.

Pollard has said, on more than one occasion, that uniform designs are essentially up to the coaches, as long as they stay inside the boundaries of our official ISU color scheme. He has stated that he does not wish to change our color scheme, again. We have what we have now.

He has allowed gray, anthrocite, black, silver, (even a darker shade of gold on a white helmet I-State sticker) of late. But apparently these are not "colors", or colors that matter.

Stay tuned. I'm hoping that he will have a change of heart, at some point before he retires.

Pollard only knows the brighter yellow-gold, since he has been our AD. I'm not sure that realizes the significance of our past gold history.

I'm sure he is aware of it, yes, but he is stubborn on certain things. This appears to be one of them.

The TCU uniform pushed me over the edge into the full on conspiracy mode. I almost wonder if them going for a blank uniform is some sort of protest against Nike. I can't believe they voluntarily moved away from that cool collar design to a uniform with no design features.

Nike has gone through several big rounds of layoffs in the past 4 years, and I was told a year or so ago that its design department(s) weren't immune from those cuts -- which was going to make it a tougher go the next time new uniform sets were being considered.

I like the all whites with the red accents and I like these new all white with the black accents too. I also hope they use the Jack Trice throwbacks for one game.

Testifying
I still wouldn't hate the Trice 5 bars on the shoulders where the 3 horizontal stripes are.

Does anyone know how much input the school even has? I doubt it’s little to none other than saying yes to the final 1-designs.

There’s no way a school like TCU signs off to their worst uniforms in a decade. I would wager big money the school only has input on colors they want and how many alternates they get. The design is ALL Nt

I’ve said this forever that if I was AD I would take the 90’s cynado logo and replace the blue outline trim with black and it would be absolutely perfect, it incorporates Cyclones, cy, and our name in it without messing up our color combo, Jaime needs to update the blue and bring it back
I stand corrected. The 90's SwirlyCy is called the Cynado? Check. Or is that the Bird in a Blender?

Better continue calling the 80's twister logo the Orrnado, then. It's the best fit.

The logo names can be confusing.

Yeah, we can't have a gold helmet (or even cardinal/gold pants stripe to connect elements), but we can have like 6 black/white combos from which to choose.

But we have gold pants now, and probably won't use it often (prediction).
But the 6 black/white combos are needed to fill more than half of our schedule, now including road games. This is important for our new school non-color, black! People just need to understand.

And there shirley will be a couple of games left over for our new cardinal jersey and our new C/G white jersey. Bam! And no doubt we will get 1 Away game with our fancy new gold pants. The rest of the time the gold pants will be used for practice.

And don't call me Shirley!

This is the Campbell era’s version of busting out matte helmets 5 years after they were cool.
Always the Bridesmaid? Yes. The black unis in 2018 were fairly unique, and well done, though. So, 'the Bride' on that one.

This version of black, not so much now. It will be OK, but nothing stands out, other than the stark constrast of just the monotone white & black.

And god, I hope we never do another matte cardinal helmet, like the one in the mid 2010's (was it?). Horrible.

We are due for a pretty "off-color" cardinal helmet, sometime soon. It wouldn't surprise me.
