You can do all the fun stuff you want, but the key to a great BLT is thick cut bacon, super fresh tomatoes, and super fresh lettuce.
Miracle Whip is better than mayo on a BLT. And if you aren't using creamy peanut butter on your BLT you're missing out.

Try duck bacon, if you can get it. Might have to order it online. It's more expensive, but the flavor is really good, and it's sort of an upscale addition to a BLT rather than the downgrade that turkey bacon is.My wife is allergic to pork, so we only have turkey bacon in the house.
