Mustang, Camaro, or Firebird?

i have never been a Mustang fan.
I haven't really been either. I was a big Pontiac guy. Had a hand-me-down Firebird in my teens and always preferred them. A 30th anniversary TA or a 1989 Turbo Trans Am would be what I would seek out as a collectable.

I actually spotted that Mustang today passing through Boone. I personally wouldn't part with $12k for it, but it looks nice.

Preference was a bigger consideration when new. Now availability, condition, options, etc. have opened up my interests. I do all my own work too and they all have solid aftermarket support.

I had a 1976 Chevy Camero with a small block 350 truck engine in it. Going to Okoboji got it going 146 mph. Never should have sold that car. Got to Boji from ames in 2 hours 15 minutes that day. 1721052675211.png 1721052675211.png

I had something similar when I was 16. 1974 w/427, M22 rock crusher, and all the fun stuff. Mine had low gears so it probably wouldn't go over 120. I sold it to buy a 1983 Firebird w/305(idiot). Please ignore the blue license plates :)

65 or 66 Mustang. I get a lot of hate, but the 70s Mustangs look bloated to me (and the 80s are just not good).

Mustang. I'm 99% sure my grandpa would change his will to give me everything if I showed up at his house with a late 60's Shelby and tossed him the keys.

If the OP is not a "car guy" and willing to repair and maintain a vintage car, I would lean towards either a 5th gen Camaro SS v8, or a coyote (5.0) modern mustang. The main question here is whether or not you would want an automatic transmission or manual. Manuals are way more fun, but probably hard to find a good example sub $15k. Get a stock one, in the best condition possible. Miles are not as critical to me as condition and maintenance. Both cars are superior to the Challenger or Charger in my opinion.

I'm having fun with this. Not much more than your price range In my opinion, tinkering with or repairing a "toy" car like this myself is part of the appeal of owning one.

I was in Steamboat Colorado a few years back and they had a mustang show going on downtown. Had some neat cars and one with an ISU license plate bracket.

Throughout my years I've had a '69 Camaro RS 350 (My favorite), 72 RS Camaro and an 82 Z28 Camaro with T-Tops. The 82 Z28 had torque converter bolt issues, they would get loose over time and have to be replaced.

I remember buying a new 1989? Firebird Formula. All black so the first thing I did was take it to the car wash. The T-Tops leaked from mile 10 going forward. The dealer "They all do that". This is probably why I didn't buy another domestic for like 30 years.

I had a Mustang GT 6-speed in my early 20's - was a very fun car to drive until I literally got stuck in my own driveway one winter and decided that was the end of my RWD experience in Iowa.

I've got a 2007 Shelby GT, manual, fun to drive. Also have a 92 Camaro, bought it for the wife, has t-tops, automatic, V-8, nice cruiser. I like them both, but I would never get 4th generation Camaro, because they are just fugly.

I'd love to have a Coronet R/T or a SuperBee. For the OP's question, my preference would be a 3rd Gen Camaro. I like the looks and it could be bought at a price where you could drive it rather than just store it.
