There are a lot of ISU fans in the Okoboji area. My preception is they have taken over Nebby for #2 up there.

I feel like around Sioux City ISU fandom outpaced Nebraska permanently about 10 years ago and the momentum for it started more like 20 years ago. Combo of Neb sucking and ISU being more consistently competitive. Obviously it's purely football, there wouldn't be Nebraska fans in Nebraska if it was only about basketball.

Condon just claimed that Iowa/Minnesota is a bigger deal in the Mason City area (he’s from Osage) than CyHawk.

That is absolutely not true. Minnesota fans don’t care, and there aren’t any there anyhow. Plenty of Cyclones though.

He’s just projecting his desire for the game to mean less

I wasn't passionate about beating Minnesota at all when I was a huge Iowa fan growing up. I never met any Iowa fan who was. I think it's just about tradition and the novelty of a trophy.

Nebraska was more of a hated rival to Iowa before they even played each other. I'll buy that they have some mild actual rivalry feeling vs Wisconsin. In truth I think their fans have the most emotion about beating ISU and Nebraska. Like any fan base they'll throw out Ohio State or Michigan the same way beating KU basketball is passionate for us, that doesn't make it a bitter rivalry though.

I grew up in NE Iowa less than 10 miles from the MN border and I guarantee that there isn't anywhere in Iowa that Iowa/Minnesota is a bigger deal than Iowa State/Iowa is. To claim otherwise is dumb AF or just a total troll job.

i grew up near the Minnesota border on the other side of the state and no Hawk fans would put Minny over ISU.

Well I grew smack dab in the middle of you two apparently and less than 2 miles from MN. Went to church and did a lot of business (still do) in MN; and they don’t care about gopher sports, it’s all Vikings. They just find Hawkeye fans annoying.

My guess his #2 is UNI and you can pretty much lump them in with Hawk fans anyways. Anyone know a UNI fan that prefers ISU over Iowa because I'm not sure I have ever met one.

( waves hand) the folks that I go to Cys house of trivia with are UNI fans.
Exception to the rule but they are out there.

I didn't see this either. I'm underwhelmed by this choice.
Pretty sure some of the other local news or radio shows talked about the choice right after it was announced, ISU did send a press email out about it as I still have it in my inbox. You'd think Heather as an ISU fan would have known this by now too if she was paying attention. I reserve my opinion on the choice until I see how Jackie does. Picking someone with a TV background like her was probably the right choice and would be interesting to know who else they might have been considering. Just glad it wasn't someone obnoxious or annoying like Scott Siepker. Who knows, maybe she knocks it out of the park from game 1 and looks like a natural fit. The bar was set pretty low when they used to trot out Jeff Johnson to lead chants before kickoff. I like Jeff, have met him and been at alumni events he's at and he does a great job in that atmosphere but the pre-game stuff they had him do several years ago was just cringe worthy.

I've seen/heard her do Iowa Wild games, and I was just not impressed. She mispronounced our own players' names. And not even hard ones. (I understand some of the international names are difficult, but Mennell is not. And if you're not sure, ASK SOMEONE.)

What in game job? I hadn’t heard of this

The day they posted the job seemed like all the KXNO shows were talking about it and even remember Sean joking about he should apply for it which Heather told him he probably has pissed off too many Cyclone fans over the years. Was also a mention of it in some other threads if you search. This was the email sent out July 24th:

Dear Cyclone fans,
For many Cyclone fans the start of the 2024 football season can’t arrive soon enough. Just 38 days until Jack Trice Stadium welcomes fans back for the home opener on Saturday, Aug. 31 when Iowa State will host North Dakota at 2:30 p.m.

As part of enhancing the gameday experience, the athletics department is thrilled to introduce Jackie Schmillen as the Jack Trice Stadium on-camera Host. As the Host, Jackie will be responsible for presenting in-game promotions and features and adding to the overall excitement of the fan experience.

Jackie may be a familiar face to many Iowa State fans, as she has previously worked as an on-air talent in the Des Moines television market during her 17-year broadcast career. Additionally, she has served as Host/emcee for several sports teams in the Des Moines area, including the Iowa Wild and Iowa Barnstormers. Since 2022, Schmillen as served as the Director of Public Affairs with the Iowa National Guard in Johnston, Iowa.

We are also pleased to report that the installation of our new sound system at Jack Trice Stadium is nearly complete, which should further enhance your football Saturday's in Ames!

Thank you for your continued support of Cyclone Football and we can't wait to see you this fall!
Go Cyclones!

She does the Barnstormer games as well. When I saw this I was filled with dread. I cannot stand her.

Gonna blow out that new speaker system the first game - hopefully someone finally lets her know she has a mic.
