One has major injury concerns and one doesn’t.

It’s still a silly argument. He had the knee issues when he finished 3rd.

If you want to argue that it’s a bad precedent to set for program-building and recruiting, I can completely understand that.

Are they significantly better with Buchanan than they are with Glazier? I don’t think so.
Buchanan scored 17 points at NCAA. Glazier scored 1.5. That moves them into 2nd place by a considerable margin. And that wasn’t a fluke, Buchanan has done it before.

In what world is that not a significant improvement?

I guess I’m in the belief that Glazier would score more than 1.5 points next year.

The B1G is by far the toughest conference in wrestling. They either spend a half million $$$ risking it by letting him wrestle or just throw him into the line-up right before the B1G tourney. Either way, it's a suspect at best way to run a program.

We all know the AJ Ferrari circus would have ensued in IA City if not for the new AD Beth Goetz putting her foot down, because clearly TNT and the donors only think about one thing. I can't remember the last storyline to come out of Iowa wrestling that hasn't stunk.

1)This
2) He has a higher probability of being in the line-up all year
3) You're investing in the loyal wrestlers already in your program
4) You're not spending $500,000 on a super injury prone wrestler for a year

You think even on his best day he ever scores 17? I certainly don’t. Maybe if he’s hit at the right time he gets 8 or 9.

You can have issues with the dirty recruiting, or team chemistry issues, etc. but it’s pure fantasy if you think this isn’t a significant upgrade from a wrestling standpoint.

The Big 10 used to be by far the best conference but outside of PSU that’s not the case now. Last year Big 10 top 15: 1, 3, 5, 8, 9. “New” Big 12 - 4, 6, 10, 11t, 13, 14. Other - 2, 7, 11t, 15.

Big 10 is still more top heavy but the margin between conferences has definitely narrowed the past 5 years.

This.

Glazier is tough but he’s not sniffing the top 4 and clearly Iowa feels the same.

Is it dumb for them to pay $500k for, sure, but they are one of few programs who can do it.

Buchanan essentially gives them another surefire AA contender with championship upside.

You’re just rolling the dice with his health. He's tough though. Yonger has significantly improved. But back then those matches were something. He’s one of the very few guys that could out horse him.

It also would have been one thing if Buchanan had entered the portal when it was open to get paid vs Iowa openly recruiting him and tampering while he was a member at Oklahoma. Iowa is becoming dirtier than Michigan in the transfer portal

Glazier was the 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Buchanan was the 8 seed.

I am not sure how the 7 seed couldn’t sniff the top 4 but it doesn’t really matter anyway. I think it’s money spent poorly but it isn’t my money!
Glazier beat who was in front of him which last year which isn’t his fault, but did he have any big wins at all? Any AA’s?

Were on the same page, not worth $500k but it absolutely should help them at NCAAs.
