Well, some might say the same thing about Iowa State. And the Hawks did hammer the Clones this year. Clones had one of the best 5 players in their conference and still couldn't win more than 4 games. I still have hope for several guys that didn't show much this year.....but I assume the Hawks do too.
ISU was down this year, but the future is really bright. ISU upgrades talent next year in two positions. Iowa upgrades next year at what position. 2010 recruits advantage ISU. It's all about the future. This year is over and was a down year.

Who in their right mind would ever go to Iowa to play basketball? The future doesn't look bright and the recruits are not big ten talent. UI needs to invest in the bball team and the facilities.

I really dont get how you dont think iowa future looks bright. Lickliter has proven he can coach and has beaten some pretty good teams during his two years at iowa. They return some pretty good players as well and are still recruiting for the 09 season. Jake Kelly is very good, peterson is strong and can get into the lane, Gatens is a great player, and Cole is just a beast. Iowa may not have the best athletes, but Lickliter puts them in position to win every game. Like it or not I think iowas future is very bright with Lickliter at the helm, but I also think ISUs looks even brighter.

Well when you loose your leading scorer two straight years in a row you tend to be rebuilding each year finding that leading scorer....

You and the other McD apologists need to quit using this as an excuse. Do you know how many top programs go through this every year?

KU lost over 80% of their scoring from last year. Collins and Aldrich averaged 10.1 points per game between the both of them last year and they were the top returning scorers this year.

Long gone are the days of keeping players around for 4 years. I hate this saying, but it is true...you don't rebuild, you reload. It has to happen that quickly if you want to maintain an average or better program.

Just getting ready to watch Marcus take on the Little Cyclones. Should be a good match-up with him against Boo-Boo from Ames. I'm anxious to see who Linn-Mar has trying to guard Harrison. After watching both teams play their first two games, I'm not sure that Linn-Mar has anyone that can keep up with Harrison's quickness, but they can match the heights. For the first time in the State Tournament, they will really miss Hutch tonight. It's a shame what happened, as I've been looking forward to this match-up for a few weeks now.

Anyway, back out for the second half of the 3A game.

Yes and they are also Kansas, the Juggernaut that eats up five star recruits and McDonald's all americans like they are candy.

take Nebraska, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Mizzou's leading scorers away and where would they be right now???

yeah, isu and ku recruit the exact same players. i forgot that isu has 8 McD's all americans ready to step in and fill the scoring void. aldrich and collins = boozer and hamilton right? :jimlad:

ps. before you call me an apologist, i am right in the middle of the coach McD opinion poll, still on board but needing to produce next year (NIT at minimum w/ brackins).

Since you're one of several to brilliantly point out the difference between KU and ISU (as if I'm unaware), I suppose I better clear this up.

Has player retention (or lack thereof) been a factor during McD's tenure here? Absolutely. Should we be willing to let a coach get established before we start bashing him on this? Of course. Should we make excuses when people leave? Not forever. The strength of our program can not rest on one or even two players each year. That was the point I was trying to make.

Obviously they have a distinct advantage in recruiting. Why? Because they find a way to win year in and year out. My point is that we can not continue to make that excuse if we want to be a top tier program. Kids that go to KU can be extremely confident that they'll play on successful teams without worrying about timing or who is/isn't leaving for the draft, getting kicked off the team, transferring, etc.

Perfect example is Barnes. Do you think it may matter a little bit to him that the cupboard could be absolutely bare when he gets here? If he knew he was going to be surrounded with other talent I promise you he would be more likely to consider a team like ISU.

Bubu really shut down Paige for the most part. Bubu is an amazing defender and a very good player. I find it mind boggling that he has no D1 offers for basketball. I really wish McD would offer him a walk on spot, he is a deffensive stopper who has a killer attitude that this team lacks.

There are tons of players like Bubu out there. He is a good player but not D1

With all due respect, I'm sure that he has. However, I think he'd probably be attending more ISU games if it weren't a nearly 2 hour drive from the east side of CR versus a 30 minute drive to Iowa City. Just a thought...

Are you the slow one I pass every time I go home?

If Paige can get to be a legit 6'2", he will be VERY good. The fact he is a lefty is even more intrigueing. Hope he grows 3 more inches and we and suck him out of Eastern Iowa.
