Charlie Creme updated his preseason Bracketology today. We're in the same part of the bracket as South Carolina (the #1 overall seed).

I know it's only a preseason guess, but I have no problem with being a 2.

I'm sitting here thinking "why a Toccara Ross picture?" until I finally realized it's a continuation of the jersey countdown.

After being at Kirkwood CC for two seasons, Ross had a great junior season for ISU in 06-07. She tore her ACL early in the 07-08 season (when Wieben also tore her ACL and Jocelyn Anderson really stepped up with two post players out) and was never really the same in 08-09.

Ross did seem to fully recover and had one of the longest pro careers a former ISU WBB player has had -- 15 seasons, capped by playing for Athletes Unlimited in 2022.

She spent the 22-23 season as an assistant coach at Boston U and is now in her second season as an assistant at Central Michigan.

We will see her return to Hilton on Dec 8 when CMU comes to play.

I was sitting in the corner close to court when she went down in the last few seconds of the first half in Williams Arena here in Mpls. It was right in front of us and you knew, or at least, thought, it was bad. Odd situation, Gopher crowd was up cheering (they had ended the half on a run) and pep band was playing the "Rouser". Took a moment for folks to see that someone had been injured.

I was at ISU for undergrad in the 80's, then grad school 89-91. I remember going to women's basketball games at ISU when there was maybe only 500 people in the stands, but it didn't matter as "Wild Bill" made up for it with his constant chatter! Gotta think he would love the crowds the team gets today, as well as the way the team performs! https://iowastatedaily.com/193191/sports/wild-bill-wears-cyclone-charm/

No, not the old Ventures song "Rouser," it's the school pep song. Didn't know that.

The "Ventures" song came to mind as an odd way to ease into an injury time-out.

It happened seconds before the horn and away from the action (IIRC) so the half ended and went right into the half "celebration" with Gopher running off the court before anyone even knew she was hurt. It was on the sideline and away from the ball and was essentially unnoticed. Buddy and I only saw it because it was right in front of us. Just an odd happenstance, guess that's why I remember it it so much.

Last year was the first season since the 1950s for MBB and first season ever for WBB where players can wear digits other than 0-5, and this season is the first year ISU WBB players are taking advantage of that -- Lily is #6 and Lilly is #9.

So no 38 or 37 without more significant editing than my hack job above.

She was one of my favorites. I have some great things planned when doing this countdown.

Several numbers aren't represented so I will be combining jersey numbers to match those numbers without a jersey.

Not going to do anything hacky photo wise. People will just have to do the math. :)

Also have a plan to include numbers before countdown started.

Goal is to include a good number of players past and present.
