if internal, thats overreaction from manager

if external, i think there's a level of professionalism to upkeep with customer
Reminds me of that ambassador (?) That was on a meeting then his kids come running in and his wife tries to sneak in below desk level to corral the kids. It was hilarious. Accidents happen if it's a everytime thing correct it, once in a blue moon laugh and roll with it

It might not be a terrible idea for a startup. It probably is difficult to get everyone on the same page and establish a culture in a new company if people aren’t in the office.

Speaking from experience, “culture” at a startup is just a word that gets tossed around when things aren’t going well. There’s no time for culture when the goal is to get acquired. For a startup the goal of this would be to have better oversight on people and make sure they are grinding their lives away sufficiently to make sure the founder gets paid.

Culture can be spun any way management wants.

The last bank I worked at had an attrition rate unacceptable in any other organization. People quitting or being removed by security at an alarming rate.

2 years was "old guard".

Somehow management spun this as a planned positive for the company culture.

Sure. Yep. Got it.

IMHO - In many instances in the tech space, it’s not only compatible, it’s optimal.

Well, that’s sort of what I assumed the culture would be at a startup. All hands on deck to make sure this thing doesn’t fail. I know you are sort of insinuating they can be egotistical jerks…and that’s probably true. I don’t necessarily blame them for wanting to be a little controlling when they are putting so much on the line though. An employee just has their job to lose. An owner might lose substantial life savings.

That culture only works with a smart and charismatic leader. Most of the time that isn’t the case at a startup. You either get a dork that wants to be an alpha and it’s not genuine, you get a rich guy with rich friends that is under so much pressure that they are just an *******, or you get a guy that has just barely enough of the two qualities to keep the ship afloat for way too long. This is tech I’m talking about.

The tech startup space is teetering on the brink of death imo. Alphabet, Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Meta etc are too big now. All of the innovation in that space lives under them already and they’ve made it too good for people to go out on their own.

I don’t know. It’s refreshing to have 3 minute hallway conversations again rather than 30 minute meetings to discuss an issue.
I would love to have a nice 3 minute hallway conversation. In my experience, those 3 minutes turn into 13 minutes, then I’m late walking to another conference room, then another, then another, then another 3 - 11 minute hallway thing, then scramble for lunch (if it’s even possible at that point), etc, etc. The best place to not get work done and be constantly distracted and late - is the office.

This stuff is so weird for me to understand. Everyone with husband’s job got switched to work from home after COVID.

All five sons are hybrid because none of their employers have enough work space. Maybe that’s an engineer thing.

In my experience, remote meetings have been way more efficient. In-person meetings are full of BS conversations.
My sons work at such big places they aren’t even in the same buildings as some of the people they work with anyway. So even when they are at work meetings are remote sometimes anyway.

You’re way too personable then. If you come off as an ******* to everyone they won’t want to have those conversations.
