I still don't understand this statement. Was he REALLY that good? He doesn't throw the ball all that well and has no arm strength. Help me understand why Iowa went after him hard.

He looks like crap now for sure but he led Michigan to a Big 10 Championship and CFP appearance in 2021. He also originally committed to Notre Dame for flipping to Michigan and had offers from Alabama Georgia and USC too so he was a big recruit coming out of HS.

I can't find any transfer portal rankings or grades from when he committed to Iowa but at the time I'm pretty certain he was thought of as the top QB transfer.

to steal a line from Stu Gotz on the Dan Lebatard Show, he was 1% less worse

He was actually ranked ~ 16th to 18th in the QB class that offseason. The only people saying he was the #1 QB available were hok beat writers and fans.

I've been trying to find anything that is close to lists, rankings or grades of the portal class at the time and my initial search is not coming up with much.

Iowa media said Notre Dame wanted him in the portal but they didn’t even contact him. It moved so fast, probably because they tampered, but I don’t think he would have had much P4 interest.

It never made much sense to me why Iowa media and fans made it such a big deal when he committed or why they felt the need to pay him so much.

Kirk getting suspended for tampering with Cade will go down as the funniest cheating scandal in history.
The hokeye fans I talk to wish Kirk would have suspended himself for a least 2 games...they feel the offense is much better without him and they would have beaten ISU....;):mccaffery:

For as solid as Big 10 has actually been for years in the trenches and second levels, it’s wild to me how bad their qb play has been for years.

Mid Big12 QBs look like they could be top of BIG qb lists. Just incompetent or ineffective nearly every time I would catch a few mins of BIG action.

Why does Ross continue to claim that Iowa State doesn't have the fan base to support a call-in radio show when his friend and longtime former colleague hosts one?

Cado Mac had one pretty good year at Michigan when surrounded by Harbaugh talent. Stats were nothing special (~2600 yards and 15 TDs in 14 games) but they won a lot. Beat out by McCarthy the next year then got injured right away. I don't think he's ever been fully healthy since then.

The fact that he transferred to a team with a historically bad offense should tell you something about what the market demand for him was like.

Hint: There's a reason Michigan fans weren't upset he left.
