I don’t know that is a streaming thing as much as this is the more common practice with British series. Luther had a similar thing where the number of episodes seemed to be based on what it took to tell the story rather than adjusting the story to fit in a specified nimber of episodes.

As far as Slow Horses specifically, I’ll need to read the books to know if they cut a lot out of the season or if the book the season was based on was shorter.
Here's a couple interesting articles on it. They give some reasons for it, not sure they make a good case as to whether it is good or not, at least for the consumer, several are good for the producer.

Honestly there are a ton of articles on the subject of shorter seasons and long gaps between them that discuss the subject recently. I am surprised while looking for them how many there are. This is just a few.

It must be a subject of contention among many, I guess.

This past weeks fun, a 2022-2024 Children's Books, Movies, Nursery rhymes Horror Film Fest…

Hansel and Grettle was decent.

Cinderella’s Revenge was laughably stupid.

Alice in Terror Land was dumb.

Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 1 and 2 were bad.

Jack and Jill was really bad.

Mickey Mouse Trap was terrible.

Mary Had A Little Lamb was an abomination.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Blood and Porridge is next level ****. It a horror, but not just by genre.

I've wanted to see those 2. Same studio (ITN) that is bringing us Steamboat Willie

ITN movies are so bad. I watched a lot of them on Tubi when I was in the zombielike trance while doing radiation treatment

I've never had Hulu and have a free month right now. What are the tv/movies that I should check it out while I have it on Hulu?

I'm going to look The Bear, The Handmaid's Tale.

Also some movies that you can only view through Hulu. Like I wanted to see Poor Things, so I watched it last night and it was good.

I believe Reservation Dogs is still on Hulu? That's awesome.

Handmaids is well done.
I "kind of" knew what it would be about but its more dystopian that I could imagine.

Silo season 2 finally premiering in a couple weeks. Hate waiting 18 months - 2 years in between seasons only to get a handful of episodes that aren't even an hour. Makes me miss network tv.

Prey was a decent movie only on Hulu. Different setting for The Predator

That new Billy Crystal thriller drama “Before” on AppleTV is a good start so far. Much different type deal for him.
