Plus the Pop flop, let's be honest that red ponytail and a good head snap as you went to the floor hard drew a lot of refs attention.
She was the best ISU player I remember at being able to draw the charge. :)

Ashley Joens was really good at drawing charges to. Seemed to me to do it less as a super-senior but that might not be correct, just my recollection. She's not really thought of as a good defender but she was really good a getting a charge.

For discussion's sake...take a look at the coach's picks for the Big 12.
1. KSU
2. ISU
3. Baylor
4. TCU
5. WVU
6. Utah
7. Ariz
8. Kansas
9. Colorado
10. TTech
11. OSU
12. BYU
13. Cincy
14. UCF
15. ASU
16. Houston

Discussion Point 1. The top three are easy choices based on returning firepower. Their order could be hotly debated. IYO, why would coaches pick KSU over ISU after last year's head to head victories by ISU and ISU's performance in the Big 12 tourney? Baylor has talent but seemed soft last year. I'd almost put WVU over Baylor, but they are a one trick pony much of the time.

Discussion Point 2 - Is TCU picked in their slot because of the return of a very dysfunctional team and/or the addition of Van Lith (who has underwhelmed)?

Discussion Point 3 - the next four teams after WVU (#s 6-9) seem interchangeable. What might make one stronger than the rest?

Discussion Point 4 - of the bottom part of the conference (#10-16) who might make the most noise and why?

In head-to-head play I'd agree we might have an edge on KSU. However, the title won't be totally decided on two games between ISU and KSU so the coaches voting would be looking at the entire league. The vote was essentially a tie with a nod to Baylor as the third competitor. If Texas and Sooners were still here Texas would have been the pick and it would be a four-way scrum for 2nd place votes.

ISU got better votes in the national polls from the AP reporters and the coaches poll is coaches that maybe saw ISU and KSU a couple of times. The pre-seasons polls are a combo popularity contest and acknowledgement of what happened last year adjusted with player gains and loses.

Me, setting aside bias, it really is a pick'em. I'll be pretty disappointed if we don't take a couple of titles before Crooks graduates. There's no "But Baylor's a Final Four team" excuse. It's a perfect storm with us being as good or better than we have ever been in a period where the league is not top heavy. There is no UConn, SC, USC, UCLA, or Texas standing in the way. Wildcard is Lee staying healthy. Given her history that might not be a good beat but I just can't go with saying "She'll get injured". If Lee doesn't stay healthy than we will end up big favorites. I've also never been as impressed with their guards as the hoops media has been. However, they are seniors and do play good defense and gave Iowa fits the last few times they played. They also added another really good senior guard via the portal, ACC unanimous POY, Temira Poindexter. So, KSU will have five starters who are seniors with Poindexter an upgrade over graduating Gabby Gregory.

If anyone's interested, here's a Big 12 preview with Jamie Steyer Johnson. It's WAY too long at 1:48 for me to sit through in its entirety but the ISU/KSU/Baylor stuff is at the beginning if you want to peruse that part.

Yeah, I skimmed through the first bit but after I heard a little about the Baylor transfer post from Colorado I was done!

I don't have the patience for 20 -30 minute podcasts without fast forwarding so I am not listening/watching something pushing 2 hours.

A podcast should be limited in length and focused…so many podcasters can’t accomplish that.

Still three weeks off before we play anyone with a pulse. UNI and Drake will be at least worth watching and maybe more than stat stuffers. Plus they are instate schools of interest. The games prior to that will only be interesting to see the new transfers, or at least three of them. After that the real action starts with the first of three NC games ISU isn't guaranteed to win. All big TV games to for the national audience.

Had to LOL at postings I saw on another board trying to seriously discuss how certain Terrapins looked in the exhibition win over a Div II opponent, score 108-37.

So…what are you all looking forward to the most this Wednesday? Shouldn’t be competitive in the least. Me? I want to (a) see the newbies perform and (b) see what kind of flow there is with different combos on the court.
1. I'm interested in the Point Guard situation behind Emily. I would think Arianna would be second, then??
2. What role they hope to have Alisa play?

I know the competition will be very low so take everything with a grain of salt but I want to see how mobile Lily Taulelei is....it's hard to be worse than Isnelle was last year

From the sounds of it, she is not playing yet. DMR article linked.

It may be a bit before newcomer Lilly Taulelei makes her Iowa State debut. Taulelei has been dealing with a sprained ankle and Fennelly didn’t provide an optimistic outlook for her to open the season.

“We’ve got a ways to go with her,” he said.

I’m excited to see how BF handles substitutions. Does he play Ryan, Brown, and Crooks a lot of minutes or does he feel comfortable playing others. I’m also interested to see the combinations he uses on the floor together. We can go big or go small with quality options. We have both top end talent and depth. How does that play out?
