Well…not all freshmen were bad…Jackson was one of our top defenders. But, yes, it would be nice to see the team be pretty stingy ont hat defensive side.
Yes, I agree Jackson was good defensively and Joens gave effort too. But the other 3…not as much. To be fair, we were sort of short on bodies and couldn’t rack up fouls. Hope to see better effort there this year. Agree also with the comment wanting more movement on offense. I think this group can do big things if they improve a bit in those areas.

I just don't think it Fennelly's style to focus super hard on defense. I looked back on our stats and Iowa State has not been above 5th in the conference for scoring defense.

Not saying it shouldn't be better this year, but I wouldn't expect anything close to a stout defense.

I’d take fifth in a heart beat. I don’t expect us to turn into West Virgina or ATM over night and honestly I don’t want us to. Just play salty defense and maintain a focus on a high scoring offense.

Tidbit from the Athletic as they count down their top 20 women’s players. One note…Iowa's transfer from Villanova is #20…no one should overlook this team.

back on topic…here's what they say about Crooks.

"Crooks gained national acclaim after dropping 40 on Maryland in last season’s NCAA Tournament first round, but anyone who saw the freshman play in the Big 12 was well aware she’s a matchup nightmare. She’s a high-usage, high-volume 2-point shooter who spent her offseason developing more counters against taller defenders, handling double-teams and increasing her conditioning so she can consistently play 30-plus minutes a game this season. As a freshman, one of Crooks’ biggest strengths was pursuing her misses (she shot 72 percent of second-chance opportunities), but if she couples that with a deeper bag of moves, she’ll give Big 12 coaches fits. She’ll be a pillar for the Cyclones, who have a chance to make their deepest postseason run."

Another coach's comment - “She is so physically dominant that she just clears space. And then what she does so well is that if she doesn’t finish her first shot, she’s so crafty at getting the rebound for the second-chance shot. She can get good position. But I think (teammate) Emily Ryan really puts Audi in the right positions and spots where Audi wants to play. Audi has a contagious personality. She does a great job of leading them. She seems like the kind of leader who, when the moment is intense, she can crack a joke. That’s so valuable.”

Interested in going to the game vs Uconn. Looking for advice on if/how the players/staff sell any of their tickets that will be unused to cyclone fans. Lower deck tix not in the corners at $200 are a bit rich for my blood. Or at least which bench the Cyclones will be located at?

Do not think Players / Coaches are allowed to sell their tickets - they are only allowed to put people on the ticket list. If there are extra tickets the ticket office would control them.

Still two weeks to kill before we play anything resembling a team that will maybe be competitive with us. Maybe I'll roll down the road for either UNI or Drake.

Lots of good seats available for UNI, it's tempting.

UNI and Drake will both be solid tests. Playing at UNI is always tough. Drake has some top notch players as well.

UNI is a nice venue also. McCloud Center is a really good place to watch a ball game. IMO.
It's a lot nicer than the Knapp Center.

So..if Lily T. plays starting Thursday…how does that change the role of Williams?
Wondering that as well. How much will we see Audi and Alisa on the floor at the same time this year?

So many good guards, but it appears CBF will have a difficult time keeping Williams off the floor-depending on matchups.
