I posted somewhere that I thought #16 would be "fair" but maybe #20 would be more accurate until we show in some P5 games that we look like a a NCAA hosting team. Early polls other than heavy favorites for the Final Four are sort of a crap shot. Teams haven't fully come together yet and the schedules are uneven at best.

I lot of the early hype was based on us taking Stanford to OT but that took Ryan having a career night. Even with a pre-season "on paper" with some good portal adds being at #8 was a bit high flying considering we ended the season by squeaking in at #25,
Honestly, I felt like the rankings as they are in any sport this early - meaningless. All based off of hype from last year. Like you, I want to see us show up against some decent competition and show what we have. I also realize that so far we’ve been trying to integrate Half of a brand new team into the existing lineup. Takes some time to gel.

Been thinking about Thursday. I’ve never felt like this was a game that we would actually win. But, I also believe that this is the type of game that could range anywhere from a 20 point loss to whoever has the ball last. It all depends on whether Iowa State’s shooters show up for the whole game.

If we stay within 10 I'm claiming good enough. I'd be bummed if we lose by 20. If we win I'll be really happy, but realize there is a lot of season left.

There’s so many new pieces I don’t think we’ve figured out roles and who exactly can do what yet. I’m not too worried about it.

We are 2-10 in our last ten games with Iowa. Would be nice to get back to .500 with splitting based on who has home court in a given year with a road win considered a biggie.

On paper this should be a really close and competative game but it's a rivalry game so who knows for certain. I don't see either team pasting the other by 20. We are on a bit of losing streak to them but a 20 pointer by either team is pretty unusual.

Teams are very similar in a lot of respects and both are integrating a bunch of newbies. Our newbies beings transfers and their newbies being freshman. I am not even counting Hare for us or Olsen for them, both are established players and have slipped right in for both teams. "Young team" aside ISU would seem to have an advantage in the playing together department with Crooks/Brown/Ryan/Jackson.

Guard play will be the key to the Iowa game. Offensively & defensively both.

As for South Carolina, they aren’t close to the juggernaut they’ve been… Iowa State can win that game! Iowa State front court is as good as any in the nation, they struggle in the guard court in my humble opinion. Especially defensively.

Yeah...I was referring to the South Carolina game this Thursday. Iowa is another discussion altogether. It's a den of vipers.

This is hilarious…

Bill Fennelly was still celebrating his team’s last-second win over Drake on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum when his grandson Will Fennelly approached him.

Will had been following the South Carolina women’s game that resulted in No. 5 UCLA knocking off the Gamecocks for their first loss of the season.

“He said, ‘Grandpa, you’re in trouble,’” Bill Fennelly said. “I go, ‘What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘South Carolina’s getting killed. They’re going to be in a bad mood.’ I’m like, ‘OK, thanks Will, I love you too.’”

Anybody know what the heck "Women's Sports Network" is? That's the TV option for our WBB game tomorrow. Tournament link takes you to Roku. Never have used Roku or downloaded their app.

I tried casting it to a TV this morning using the Tubi app and it worked really well. I'd recommend not waiting until the last minute to try it out.

I looked at the Roku and Freevee apps first and they weren't super clear, but Tubi was really easy.

Thanks. I just tried the direct live link for the games today. It took me to the live game via Roku but the stream was a broken up bad feed.

Tournament schedule page with direct linkys.

EDIT: Found it on Freevee. The feed is absolute crap, jerking around with audio stuttering every second. The commercials are HD with clear stereo audio. So maybe I won't be watching.

Tried Tubi as well. Just have to do a search for the women’s sports thing and it plays quite well. Just have to hope the Iowa state game is actually there tomorrow as I don’t see any kind of schedule.

There has been several points made that Middle Tennessee State is a very good team. I decided to do a little research and this is what I found.

They have one “decent” win against Purdue (def not the Purdue of old). They have one loss by 14 to Tennessee.

Statistically
FT
ISU 71% (94/133)
MTSU 70% (116/166)

3pt
ISU 32% (57/178)
MTSU 29% (44/148)

Fg
ISU 43% (182/424)
MTSU 43% (167/389)

Reb O/D/T
ISU 67/215/282
MTSU 62/206/268

Top scorer
ISU Crooks (Post) 20.4 ppg 7.7 rpg
MTSU Boldyreva (post) 16.3 ppg 7.9rpg

Turnovers
ISU 14/game
MTSU 14/game

Everything you look at, these teams are mirror images of each other. Powerful post player. Same allocation of minutes to the bench. Same bench production. The one big difference? Average points per game - MTSU 70.1 (very inconsistent) and ISU 86 (and that includes the low total against USC). The other thing of note is three point shooting. MTSU doesn’t put up as many and hits at a lower percentage (ISU's total is greatly skewed by the USC game). One other interesting note. Boldyreva has twice been named a “Hero Of the Soviet Union.” Not sure what that pertains to.

Those numbers are so close it's scary. Definitely need a strong bounce back game from Addy.

Will be interesting to see if that “bounce back” happens today. Addy faces a BIG (6’7”) post who could make it tough for her to score the bunnies. That will def be a big part of the game today. The biggest concern I have is the scoring from the outside players. Way too much inconsistency so far this year. To me the big story will be whether we see Brown re-emerge and start seeing more points from Ryan. Those are the easy ones though. The subplot (what I’ll be looking for) is seeing what offensive contributions we get from AJ and the bench. AJ is only shooting 29% on 28 attempts (4 shots per game). Harris can be a difference maker and has to step up. I’d like to see more from Williams (shooting 36% as a post has to improve) and am hopeful another guard will emerge as a scoring threat. I just have a feeling if Hansford can get a shot to fall the lid will come off, but it has to be in her head right now. Joens is the other candidate to make a spot for herself. As for the freshmen…Tanke is playing like one (I.e adjusting to the game) and I'm not sure how long Wilson will be out.

So, lots to look for in what should be a tough matchup.

Hard for Joens to do that sitting on the bench

She’s thin, and can be Foul prone, but she blocked 4 shots last game. Honestly I’m curious how they deploy her. As hard as it was for ISU to get the ball over SCs interior players I’d start out fronting her
