Thanks so much to @matclone for today’s topic. I am going to paste it as sent, as it explains it best:

Read today about Rudy Giuliani having to give up 18 (or 26) expensive watches as part of the defamation judgment against him.
Also, today, news of a court order that Yoko Ono was entitled to possession of the expensive watch she gifted to John Lennon just before his death in 1980 (that was later stolen). It's now worth over a million.

Wondering: are expensive watches a New York thing?

Then, I thought of friends and family members, many who have Apple watches (I think).

Wondering: who wears a watch, why and what kind? (I don't wear one).

Standard G Shock for me.

Wife isn't a watch person, she prefers expensive bracelets from Ames Silversmithing, which is nice for me...

I have tiny wrists. If I wear a watch, it looks like a a kid playing dress-up by putting his dad's watch on.

I currently have a Garmin watch (but will soon need a new one and am considering Apple). All of my friends have some sort of smart watch. My mom wears a normal watch, but it's definitely not fancy. My husband received a fancy watch from a sibling a few years ago but he has yet to ever wear it.

NO. NO. And **** NO. I'm not some high roller or see any need for an expensive watch/status symbol, I hate things on my wrists and I don't need to be any more connected via some smart watch than I already am and distract me from the rest of the world.

Not exactly sure.
I hate jewelry, period. I used to wear none. Then my wife (and kids) bought me an apple watch for birthday or fathers day. So, I guess I have to wear it. So that day was great, I prefer to not get gifts, I have what I need, I don't like wearing jewelry, and now I have to wear a watch.

I don't wear a watch. The only one I own is one that was a gift from my parents when I graduated college that I used to wear all the time and when the battery died a few years ago I was just too lazy to go take it somewhere to get the battery replaced.

Back when we started carrying our phones 24/7 I had a time piece in my pocket, hence no more need for a watch.

My husband & I have a Apple watches. Love them. I like being able to track my steps/walking and sleep. It's a bonus when I left my phone in the other room, get a phone call I don't want to miss and can answer on my watch.

My husband fell in the garage a couple years ago and his watch asked if he was ok or needed emergency services. We convinced my almost 82 year old dad to get/wear an Apple Watch for this. It's not guaranteed to work, but if he falls and it works - it's worth it. (It has at least once already when the old rickety ladder he was standing on last year broke. He was sore, but - THANKFULLY - didn't need emergency services)

I haven't worn one for a long, long time. I am just too reckless with my arms (I smack them on things like doorknobs all the time). Guaranteed I would break it within a month.

I have three or four nice (not like Patek Phillipe or anything, just MVMT and similar) watches that I wear situationally. Apple Watch for day-to-day. I prefer not to look at my phone all of the time if I don't have to do so.

I've never worn a watch until a Father's Day gift a couple of years ago of a nice Garmin watch that I use for golf (and training apps/etc) and love it!

I got a Garmin watch back in the day when I started running and eventually got into triathlons. I'll never wear anything else.

I have a Garmin. Mostly just to confirm my heart is still beating and it helps track workouts

This thing does way more than I need. Maps, Garmin pay, music, etc.

But it was on clearance so I made the jump.

I can say with certainly it has not been a door opener to more wealth, sex, or prestige
