Cold is not great, but at least a person can throw on a lot of layers.

Coldest I've been and most miserable game I've attended was in 1983-1985 time frame and if my memory is correct the temps were 40-45 and pretty hard rain throughout game. Being cold and wet is the worst.

Not many people stayed the whole game.

Man I thought that 2022 Tech game was colder than that. Maybe it was just because of the snow on the ground

Thinking kickoff temperature is around 20° on Saturday night. Got me thinking about the coldest games at Jack Trice (and Clyde Williams) That'd be up in the Top 5 if the forecast holds! List below.

Here's the list that Iowa State has for home games. I'm going to double check data going back further in time just to see if there's another that sneaks in. (I was doing this for Iowa and found their coldest to be way back in the 1890s)

8° - Kansas - 2013 (Night where my thumbnail picture comes from)
17° - Colorado - 1991
20° - Missouri - 1979
20° - San Jose St. - 1959
21° - Kansas State - 1995
22° - Texas Tech - 2022
22° - Oklahoma State - 1985
25° - Kansas State - 1993
26° - Nebraska - 1976
28° - Kansas - 2000
28° - Kansas State - 2003
31° - Kansas State - 1984

How many were you at? Are there some not on there that surprise you?

Coldest one of those that I attended was 1985 when we upset Thurman Thomas and OSU. About 1,000 of us idiots rushed on the field after the game. Someone had a football and we got a little tackle game going. Cops didn’t care as long as we stayed away from the goal posts. This was before we had turf and it literally felt like we were playing on a concrete parking lot.

That's the coldest game I remember being at. I literally had a thick-ass comforter and still froze. But stayed to the end to see us beat Thurman Thomas.

I’ve to at least 7 of them. Probably not the whole game. Guessing I left early on a few.

I was at
'91 Colorado
'85 OSU
'84 KSU

Frankly the OSU game seemed a hell of lot colder. Could of been the fact that I was fully of anti-freeze at the Colorado game as well?
Yeah, in the back of my mind, the Okie St game in 85 was colder than KU in 13. But in 85 I was a drunk student probably underdressed, while in 13 I was bundled up well (but still froze).

Mizzou on the grass in the NW corner with my employers from the vet clinic back home and their wives. My winter gear was inadequate but the bota bags helped to a certain extent.

Did some more digging on games prior to 1959. A new #2 should be on the list. Since box scores aren't there I went by daily high temp. Games were always in the afternoon back then so it would have been near the high temperature. Here's what I compiled using the climate site Ames 3SW for daily high temperatures prior to 1959.

Coldest Home Iowa State Games

This is not complete warmer than 30°. Just wanted to highlight some of the older games.
