Because so many people have Friday off, doing the Friday OT today. Thanks so much to @cyclones500 for this one!

“Are there "rules" you have for how you consume a meal? Order of what you usually eat first, and related matters. NOT talking about general food preferences.”

For example, I always try to save a bite of whatever food I like best for last - end on a high note!

Consume it fast enough that you don't feel full, so you can fit more in.

I kid. Kind of.

Veggies first, then the main dish. Do you homework, then you can go out and play.

I like to have all elements consumed at roughly same pace, so all or most are "available" until the end. I don’t count something like an appetizer/salad at a restaurant, if it's prior to main course.

Also, if I have an on-the-side condiment, I want to make sure I use it consistently, so it isn't depleted before I finish whatever I'm dipping. But it can’t be TOO sparingly, I don’t want to waste it. :)

Then you have those OCD people that can't let there food touch other food. Me? I'm a seafood guy. I see food I eat it. That is all.

I will alway eat french fries or other fried type of food, tots, cheese balls, onion rings, etc. before I eat anything else on my plate. Have to eat that type of food first while hot.

I still have a few "no touchy" preferences, but far fewer than I did when I was younger.

Breakfast example, for quite some time I didn't want sausage mixed w/ pancake syrup, preferred separate plate. But now, it doesn't bother me.

I definitely was a militant no touching other food items when younger. I, like 500, have loosened that a bit. I definitely do not like wet or juicy items to drain into other items. Especially into a bread item. I do NOT want corn juice to soggy my dinner rolls.

I am big fan of separate sauce dishes or plates for certain items.

I have even slid a piece of my flatware under one edge of the plate to isolate the juice to the area where the wet item is.

S/o eats everything on her plate separately until its completely finished and then she will move on to the next food. Always found this so odd. She doesn't like the mixing of flavors I guess.

To illustrate how I used to be...

Was a teenager at a church social and one of the older know-it-all ladies was dishing up the meal. I said to please keep the something something away from the other other. She kind of gave me that that - I'm not doing that - look with the classic comment, "It all goes to the same place."

To which I replied, "It all comes out the same place too, and I don't eat it that way either."

I left and went to McDonalds 2 blocks away.

I generally like to mix the different items in each bite, a bit of turkey, some potatoes, and corn on the fork for a single bite. Like Angie, I always try to leave it so the last bite is the best bite.

I generally like to eat my salad before the main course. Some restaurants I’ve been to have given me my salad same time as the meal, or like a couple minutes before. Wouldn’t say it’s a hard rule, but its a general order of how I like things.

I don't have any idiosyncrasies in general, but for Thanksgiving, I'll save a moist bite of something (mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc) to eat with turkey if it's dry. Choking down a dry bite of turkey sucks. If it's just my family, we make duck to remedy that.

Since I'll try everything for Thanksgiving, my plate is pretty full and I don't care if foods intermingle. My only caveat is I like to have salad and fruit in a separate bowl or plate. A strawberry dipped in gravy is not appetizing.

In the end, I eat everything I put on my plate, regardless if I'm full. I can thank my parents for that habit.

I always eat the “worst” thing on my plate first and save the “best” for last. I also don’t mix bites. I’ll start on food 1 and finish it, then move onto food 2, etc.

This is the way.

I want ALL of the flavors in every bite: bit of turkey, taters, corn, stuffing, etc. on the fork.

You monster!

I save the best for last.

How many of you keep your food separate on your plate (no 2 foods touching each other)?

I try, it gets difficult if liquids start to bleed to each other. Im not as fanatic as I was when I was a kid, but I still dont like cranberry sauce bleeding into my mashed potatoes and gravy.

I don’t think I have any big idiosyncrasies, but I do notice if it is a nice meal that I’ll take a bite or two of the sides before starting on the main dish.

I always save the best for last. I hear that’s the wrong way to do it, since your taste changes as you’re eating or some such nonsense. Don’t care though, always end with what I like the most.
