The AP poll carry’s a ton of weight as far as perception goes. From the Pre-season poll until the first week of the playoff poll the AP is the ranking everyone uses to determine if teams/conferences are “good”. The Big 12 is getting screwed perception wise because Okie St and Utah ended up sucking when they were picked to be the top dogs. BYU. ISU, AZ State are getting no respect for what they did this year. It’s f*cking gross.

Iowa State benefitted because we were almost in "others with votes" to start the year. It's why we got up to #9. BYU and especially Arizona State got no benefit at all. I mean people only started believing in ASU 2-3 weeks ago.

Some teams that completely fell off the map from preseason AP:
FSU
Michigan
Utah
LSU
OK St
KU
USC

Some "surprise" teams of the year:
Indiana
BSU
ASU
South Carolina
ISU (although is 29th to 16 really a huge surprise?)
BYU
UNLV
Army

Right but my point is that as far as the league optics go, Utah and Okie St sucking killed the perception of the league. KU’s crappy start and then creating chaos didn’t help either.

Never have understood why people think that way. Perhaps, the teams that beat them are good too. Personally, I think Iowa State vs. Arizona State is better for the Big XII in the long run than Utah vs. Oklahoma State would have been. It accentuates that the Big XII is a deep varied league. Let's Go State!

1 Oregon vs 3 Penn State (B1G)
2 Texas vs 5 Georgia (SEC)
8 SMU vs 18 Clemson (ACC)
10 Boise State vs 19 UNLV (MWC)
12 Arizona State vs 16 Iowa State (Big XII)
24 Army vs unranked but receiving votes Tulane (AAC)
(Army also plays Navy in two weeks)

No games left
4 Notre Dame
6 Tennessee
7 Ohio State
9 Indiana
11 Alabama
13 South Carolina
14 Miami
15 Ole Miss
17 BYU
20 Colorado
21 Illinois
22 Mizzou
23 Syracuse
25 Memphis
So, optimum for ISU is

Oregon - PSU
: doesn't matter, both in and top 8 (winner #1/2 seed AQ, bye; loser #6-#8 hosts)
TX - Georgia: doesn't matter, both in and top 8 (winner #1/2 seed AQ bye; loser #6-#8 hosts)
SMU - Clemson: Clemson wins (#4 seed AQ bye)
Boise - UNLV: UNLV wins (#5 AQ, in as #12 seed plays at #5 seed ND)
ASU - ISU: Iowa State wins (#3 seed AQ bye)
Army - Tulane: irrelevant
Notre Dame: in as #5 seed, hosts UNLV
Tenn: in as #8 seed, hosts
Ohio State: in as #9 seed, plays at Oregon-PSU loser
Indiana: in as #10 seed, plays at TX-GA loser
Alabama: in as #11 seed (because B1G has four, so SEC has to have four)

Mainly cheer for UNLV and Clemson so winner of Big 12 gets #3 AQ and first round bye.

The rankings and looking at the number of $EC teams is a joke.

Before the season started there were 6 teams in the top 25. The media wants to keeps stating that this is deserved because of reason x,y, z… (recruiting, last years results, money spent on NIL, they are “better”, take your pick). So, the SOS goes up because of these inflated numbers.

What is arguably worse is ND. They played a total of 3 road games and lose AT HOME to a 6th ranked MAC team. Looking at their schedule, they played a lot of poor teams. ISU does this, they get buried. ND does it, and the ND name and brand carry them.

The CFB committee is only following what Bristol wants (lots of B1G and $EC) where they think the money is.

The playoffs should be the best teams. Do blind review of schedule and schools and get the best teams versus bias of names. Won’t happen, but that should be how you get the best teams in a playoff. Want to say BB does it better, but names still matter there too.

Just looked at Clemson's record and schedule. Who did they beat really? They lost to each ranked team they faced. How are they ranked higher than the Cyclones? Bias.

I get we lost two in a row. However, how is it if we win the b12 championship b12 is left out but if ASU wins they get in? I feel like we are a better team

The AP poll doesn't really mean much but seeing Clemson drop that much is promising. I think ISU has two paths to a 1st round bye now (assuming they win of course):

1) Boise State loses to UNLV
2) SMU loses to Clemson

Neither of those teams would leapfrog ISU as an 11-2 Big 12 champ IMO.
I think we would get a bye over UNLV but I doubt Clemson.

We won't be left out with a win in the CCG. ISU would get an automatic bid. But given where we sit in comparison to ASU in the ranking, they'd have the better opportunity to bypass BSU in the rankings by beating ISU, than ISU would by beating ASU, which would earn them a first round bye as one of the four highest ranked conference champions.

To get the bye a Big 12 team has to, most likely, get their ranking higher in a CCG win than Boise potentially can by beating UNLV. Iowa State may be too many spots behind to pull it off.

Clemson has the brand but their resume is way worse than ISU and they will be ranked at least a couple slots behind us going into next weekend. Plus they would have 3 losses vs 2. Any team they played that had 8 wins or more they lost to. We have 3 wins over 8 win teams. I just don't see how the committee could justify putting them in front of a Big 12 champ ISU unless we barely win and they blow SMU out. But I guess I won't put anything past this committee.

Agree with this except I’ll say for posterity, I think SMU is in win or lose. Bama needs SMU to win to keep ACC a 1-bid league. Like bubble teams in the basketball tourney want mid-major locks to win their conference tourneys.

Why does this keep being said/posted?

Because ESPN brought it up as a possibility last week with Tulane passing a bunch of Big 12 teams and sneaking up on the leaders, excitedly pointing out that "top 5 conference champions doesn't have to include the Big 12". Fortunately Tulane went out and laid an egg so that idea is now completely off the table, but it's much easier to plant an idea in people's minds than it is to weed it out.

The committee isn’t looking at resume

I struggled whether Bama or SMU (with loss) would get the last at large. I went with Bama because it just means more in the SEC.

This whole thing is rediculous. So old kids just had to go 5-3 in conference, play nobody out if conf and they are still ahead of us. Insane.
