And would you like to round up to support a cause provide the store a tax break by donating your money to a charitable fund.
They also sit on the cash for a few weeks/months and keep the interest on that, oh by the way. It can be significant.

And yeah they keep the tax break too.

This can be about anything you think fits this category but I dealt with something today that while the end result of what I was wanting to happened save me money, the backwards thinking of how to get there drove me nuts. I bought a new computer online Nov 21 that my in-law's side of the family is going to give my MIL for Christmas as her's in in dire need of replacing. I was following Black Friday sales at the time and already missed out on 1 I felt was a pretty good deal so pulled the trigger and bought one that was very similar. I kept watching prices even after I ordered it and over the weekend the price fell significantly on the exact same pre-configured one I had ordered that was now in transit for shipping. So I called the customer service line to see if I could get a price adjustment since I have not received the shipment yet and would still be within the 30 day window to return.

My thinking here is it would be simple to just give me a price adjustment and refund the difference instead of me returning the exact PC and re-ordering it again at the discounted price. Well after 45 minutes of back and forth on the phone with customer service trying to reason with them that the easiest way to do this was just credit me the $128 difference. Nope, we had to go through the hassle of initiating a return by them to PC that is due to arrive today or tomorrow then turn around and have them ship me the exact same PC that is already in transit and send the one I will receive back to them. They even waived the restocking fee as part of this so they essentially wasted my time, their time, and will be footing the bill for the return shipment and restocking it all because they apparently could not process a price adjustment/refund of the difference on my current order.

I could probably write a book on backwards thinking and processes that do not have good logic to them from my work experiences alone that waste time and money where some simple common sense thinking would save everyone involved time and money. Would love to hear what other stories are out there that you just shake your head in disbelief on how complicated they made something that shouldn't be.

Got 1 other quick story that falls into this category. We kept getting hospital bills months after we had our 1st child. We had paid our out of pocket expenses and the insurance claims had been processed. My wife finally got on the phone with someone trying to figure out why we kept getting bills for something that was already paid. After sorting it out with both the hospital and the insurance company we eventually found out the hospital had double billed the visit so even though the insurance claim had been processed they still were showing a balance. That didn't resolved until nearly a year after we had our child. And we wonder why healthcare and insurance is so expensive...
This is a petty one, but one that bugs me. Whenever I go to the grocery store and use the checkout lane, it drives me up a wall when the clerk scans an item and then just pushes it to the side, instead of putting it in a bag. So all my groceries pile up at the end of the conveyor until there's no more room left and she or he has to stop scanning and bag them up so he or she can continue.

Isn't it way more efficient to bag as you go? That way you're only handling the groceries once instead of twice. There are efficiencies built into only handling things once, instead of twice.

Same sort of thing bugs me when I watch a DIY video on Youtube and the builder only tacks down say a piece of plywood or siding or roofing with just a couple of screws and has to go back once the project is nearly complete and finish tacking them down. Two different guys I watch a lot are particularly bad at this. No wonder it takes them forever to build anything.

I actually don't think they are allowed to claim the tax break on those donations. And if you say yes to one of those prompts you could technically claim it for the dollar or whatever.

However yeah they will get that interest and the PR of being able to say they supported whatever cause the tune of however many dollars

Those round ups annoy me. Companies are required to donate the money up front so by rounding up you are essentially covering the cost of their charitable contribution that they are then taking the tax benefits from. Corporations can just simply donate the money without the need to crowd source the cost of it after the fact.

Traffic lights that are not timed correctly to keep traffic flowing.

People that stop at roundabouts when there's no one coming.

Both inefficient af and easily correctable. Aggravating.
Cedar Rapids bragged about spending something like $12 million on connecting the city stop lights via fiber so they can make them more efficient. A few years later and most of them at busy intersections are still on timers. Drives me bonkers. I emailed the city about it once and got a response that if I sent a complaint about a specific intersection they would look into it. The spiteful ahole in me really wants to waste a few hours and submit a couple hundred just to prove a point.

I figure this is the case, just annoying being on the consumer end of it. I'm guilty of not cashing in on all the 11% rebate receipts I get from Menards purchases. When it's a bigger purchase I am quick to send them in, if its small and only a few bucks I'm less motivated to fill out the form and mail it in.
Tip - just let them accrue and then send a bunch of them in together. I used to worry about the mailing date but have missed it and still got the refund. I have sent them in months later and still got the rebate. Just let them accumulate and send them all in together when it is enough to be worth your while. You are just using one stamp too...

Do you want your raw chicken hanging out with your hamburger buns? They are trying to group things usually

If I had to guess, I would say that this is an employee who isn't empowered to make the logical choice, but who knows that they can get you that price by wasting a bunch of their company's money.

Another related tip. Create an account on their site and they will give you a pre-printed rebate form with your information already filled out. I saved as a PDF and just print one copy for each receipt. Saves a ton of time.

The fact that airlines board seats at the front of the plane first drives me insane. It makes zero sense.

If you started with the back of the plane you pretty much theoretically have everybody entering with almost no stopping to their row, simultaneously.
I'm all for this. However, in order for this to work, the flight attendants must be given free reign to tase passengers that try to put their carry-ons in the overhead bins at the front of the plane.

I filled one out on their website (you can type in the fields) then printed it out. When I need to send one in I just copy my original so I always have a filled out form to send in.

And the biggest inefficiency of them all, let’s talk about check writers at stores. If you are still writing checks at the cash register, **** you. And if you do so, let’s maybe not wait until you get the total to pull that checkbook out of your purse (yes I said purse because I’m yet to see a male write one in the past 20 years). At least have the decency to fill out the store name, date, and sign it while they are scanning your items. And, for the love of god, do not hold on to the check and update your registry before handing it over.

My experience from working in multiple grocery stores in HS and college is that most of the time there is not a bagger for each checkout line but the cashier is assuming one will eventually come bag the order. The baggers are supposed to move to the closet check out after completing an order and bag the next line that needs the help but some of the baggers instead just wait until the next order in the line either because they are chatting with the cashier or don't want to start bagging the line next to them that has piled up. It's a battle that goes on daily because they do not schedule the front end help to have 1 cashier and 1 bagger per lane open because there are slow times where both will be standing around doing nothing. If there is a big rush and they are short handed up from they will get on the intercom and start calling for other departments to send help up front. I mostly worked the meat department and we were always sending 1 person up front it felt like. That's just the way retail works, they expect everyone to pitch in and help where needed even if it doing a job role that is not what you primarily do.

Now a good front end shift manager can manage that effectively by staying on top of things and making sure those scheduled to work the checkouts are not standing around doing nothing while another line is struggling to keep up. They also know when it is appropriate to call up help from other departments too without pissing off the department heads for short staffing them in the process as there are some managers that will call up half the store at the first sign the lines are starting to get longer and you do that enough times and department heads will stop sending help up front.

The biggest peeve I have is if I am using the self checkout and something you scan triggers the wait for assistance light. Nothing irks me more than waiting there several minutes sometimes because the person assigned to self checkout is either not in the area or they are but are distracted with something else like their phone or talking to someone. At that point the self checkout option may have been a waste of your time if you have to hunt someone down just to verify your ID or clear a scanning error on the screen.

Sex when married. Why do I have to spend 2 hours watching a movie I dont want to watch. Them go to the bedroom and snuggle while watching an episode of House Hunters that I have seen 9 times just for 5 minutes of mommy / daddy time? Just let me hit that swamp hole and then you can watch whatever you want in peace.
You expect to get sex when married? That ship sailed when she tasted the wedding cake.
