If UNLV does win this could happen. I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that the Big 12 gets the bye over the MWC. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that they have put the Big 12 behind the MWC in the rankings but they have and they may do whatever mental gymnastics are required in order to keep the Big 12 champ there.Because already none of any of this makes any sense to anyone thinking rationally whatsoever? No rational person would ever make Boise St the #4 seed when their only good win on the year is UNLV and their "best win" is a close loss to Oregon. Yet they're positioned so high and the Big 12 positioned so low (despite the Big 12 teams clearly having better wins) that it'd be impossible for the Big 12 champ to jump them unless they lose.
Further, they have UNLV ranked at 20. You honestly think they're not priming to screw the Big 12 over in the eventuality UNLV upsets Boise? "ermagerd... UNLV had the stones to go into Boise and snatch the MWC championship from them... they're clearly better than the Big 12 champ."
I hate that the SEC is essentially getting rewarded for playing one less conference game. And there never seems to be enough discussion around that.
If Boise loses and ISU wins, will ISU get a bye?
Does not matter. If Boise loses, they will not get the MWC AQ spot. What will matter is whether they jump UNLV over the Big XII Champion for beating Boise. They have totally set it up so that even if Boise St. loses they will be ranked ahead of the Big XII winner and there is zero justification for it.
The narrative of “Alabama has more top 25 wins!” while just completely ignoring the fact they lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma is what’s really infuriating. It’s like I said earlier - the anti-poll-champion playoff bros harped for years about “you gotta find the real champion on the field!” are the same people now saying “you can’t go by just wins and losses, the eye test and our feelings about who’s best are most important!”
3rd time.Does not matter. If Boise loses, they will not get the MWC AQ spot. What will matter is whether they jump UNLV over the Big XII Champion for beating Boise.
The BCS got so much hate only because it was a 2 team system at the time. Current state just as bad if not worse.I miss the BCS computers - something I never thought I'd be saying 20 years later.
Plus UNLV beat vaunted Kansas which beat Iowa State, BYU and Colorado! That will be part of the logic. Of course, BYU's win @ SMU means NOTHING.It literally depends on how intent the committee is in their desire to screw the Big 12 over. UNLV is ranked 20, and if they win they literally went on the road and stole the MWC championship from them on the blue turf. It's not inconceivable they decide that's such an awesome win they skyrocket UNLV over the Big 12 champ... ESPECIALLY if Clemson upsets SMU and they don't plummet either SMU or Boise St for their losses.
Your first time encountering the playoff committee, I take it?Also, B12 champ will jump USC, Ole Miss, & Miami, since none are playing Saturday.
I think Notre Dame's best win would probably be Army?I’m fine with the SEC getting more teams in because I think they are actually good. My problem is that this committee ignores the exact same logic they use to put 3-loss SEC teams ahead of a 2-loss Big 12 team when placing Boise ahead of Big 12 teams with 1 quality win against UNLV. It makes no sense and is very hypocritical.
