Lipsey had 1 point and the Clones scored 81 against a Top 5 team.

My take is Lipsey doesn't need to take shots for ISU to be a high powered offense. He just needs to be an efficient scorer in most games. As long as he is a floor general and defends he's solid.
Lipsey is injured and playing. Mentioned in post-game interview. Sounds like shoulder sgain.

Matt Campbell would say this team plays complementary basketball. I love it. Lipsey is in a funk offensively and was struggling to guard the bigger Kam Jones, so TJ takes him out and puts Heise on him and we go from tied to up 14. Chatfield is big and a great option off the bench in the post. Jefferson can play with Jackson or we can go small and put Jefferson in the middle with 4 guards and wings around him. Nojus is really talented and will get there. Curt Jones is the best 6th man in CBB two years in a row.

This is the most complete Iowa State team in my fandom which goes back to the early 80s. Stay healthy and this team can win everything.

However I don’t like what McDermott did to the program, I’m a salty bastard. Granted it caused a renaissance of Cyclones Basketball. I’m torn whether I would want him in Hilton again. I have enjoyed that we are 2-0 against him since he left however.

I do appreciate salty fans. I am one most of the time. However, I dont particularly take much issue with McDermott anymore. It was a frustrating run with him at ISU but Id imagine he was upset about it too. Just wasnt a fit there and he left when the opportunity was there instead of making it worse. I am impressed with what hes done at Creighton. Beating Kansas lastnight brought a big smile to my face.

How about closing out that game with Chatfield and Heise. Both of those guys gave us separation in crunch time. Chatfield goes to the line for a 1 and 1 around the 4 minute mark and sinks both. Then Heise buries the 3 that pretty much sealed the game. Then his shot block was the nail in the coffin.

Heise played FANTASTIC defense on Kam the final minutes. Swung the game

The Cyclones don't need to win this game to prove they belong, this core already proved that they belong, but for potential #1-#2 seeding purposes this is the type of game they need to get.
And they got it.

It's probably obvious that Iowa State is an elite team and a among a handful of teams that can win a Championship. They're doing this largely with no contribution from Lipsey, wait until he gets going.

My lone concern is that they're being carried heavily by Gilbert and Jones offensively. Jefferson and Momcilovic (calling him "mom" makes me cringe haha) have been inconsistent and not getting much off the bench outside of Jones with Heise occasionally chipping in offensively, he's been very good defensively. I take this as a good thing that they're beating good teams with plenty of growth potential left in them.

Game totally flipped when they moved Heise to Jones. Tamin was battling but they needed that extra size and length. If Heise can hit 3s at a decent clip he's going to be really hard to not have out there.

I didn't know he had that in him. Especially the ability to recover and challenge shots. He can also get over screens really well.

I really hope Tamin's injury isn't something that is just hang on until he can have surgery. Seems like we can really reduce his minutes to get him right if need be.

I liked that TJ ramped up Nojus's minutes in a big game. He made quite a few mistakes, but could pay off especially with a banged up Tamin.

This and Dayton is going to prove big come seeding time. Take down Iowa and you have 3 non-con wins over tournament teams (yes, I think Iowa probably makes the tournament). It's a huge relief to know you have those in your pocket as you go into the Big 12.

I really liked the rotation of players that TJ rollout out there last night, kept everyone fresh and love that we are playing the hot hand towards the end. We did a great job shutting down Kam Jones after his little burst, but even then the first three he hit was as the clock was running down and he was 10 feet behind the arc and just hit it. That scoop play he made was unbelievable shot also. Kid has talent, but we were not backing down and Heise did a nice job on him once the switch was made.

Wish we could get more out of Milan, for a player with his talents, he has way to many games last night where he did nothing for us scoring wise.

Overall just a great team win

Some understandable growing pains, but his time is coming.

I don't see it as being carried by Gilbert as much as he is just establishing himself as a go to star. Last year our team could have really used a closer/go to guy. I think Jones and Gilbert both started becoming that towards tourney time. Now it feels like we have that guy. Jones is ahead of last year and just a step behind Gilbert. I'm confident that Momcilovic will still be there, then we are seeing Jefferson step up while also seeing Heise's potential.

This year's team is DEEP..... that will help tremendously when foul trouble becomes a factor, not to mention other advantages that come with a loaded roster.

I'm wondering if the staff saw some trends on Cam Jones of him picking a moment lateish in games to start to take over and then input the plan into making the switch.

And MU's staff may have underestimated Heise's ability to guard and disrupt; I don't recall him being put in that role in Maui or it wasn't highlighted as much.

It helped that overall ISU seemed to press the perimeter a bit more as the 2nd half wore on.

I think MU also got tired after their burst.
