Because “we haven’t won any” because you have people like @FriendlySpartan who claim our win last Saturday against KState doesn’t count as a ranked win because they’re not ranked now
I mean that’s not just my claim but go off. Don’t see people talking about Texas beating Michigan as a ranked win, or teams beating FSU, USC, Utah, etc as ranked wins because guess what, they aren’t ranked now. That’s the way it has always worked, it’s about the moment, not teams that were misranked going into the season. Same for basketball

I believe this is the first Big XII official Bowl match-up:

#25 Memphis (10-2) will play West Virginia (6-6) in the Frisco Bowl.

Let's Go Mountaineers!

I agree with you but its a little different when its the last game of the season and you beat them to knock them out of the rankings. May not "technically" count but its pretty damn close.

Well, at least it's finally official, the crappy Big 12 bowl tie-ins won't have us playing Memphis in the Liberty Bowl.

;)

i about jumped through my computer screen and teleported to wherever these jack asses are to give them a knuckle sandwich. F*ck these guys 7 ways from sunday.

Iowa State or Arizona State

Whichever team wins the Big 12 Championship Game should savor the moment because it won’t last long. There’s a reason why the CFP committee has consistently ranked Boise State ahead of whichever team has led the Big 12 most of the season. The conference is really weak.

According to ESPN’s SP+ rankings, BYU is the best of the bunch (20th), but the Cougars won’t play for the conference championship. Iowa State ranks 24th – one spot ahead of 6-6 USC. And Arizona State is 39th!

It’s not just that these teams are mediocre (by playoff standards). They also don’t compensate with strong underdog traits. Both teams have been extremely fortunate: The Sun Devils rank ninth in the country in luck rating, and the Cyclones are 15th. Their level of play is also steady. Arizona State is in the top 40 of most consistent teams in the country, which is nice when you’re trying to beat the likes of Kansas and TCU, but not when you need a ceiling-game to beat Notre Dame. Iowa State is the third-most consistent team in the country.

Neither team did much in its nonconference games, unless you’re impressed by Iowa State’s one-point win over Iowa in September or Arizona State’s seven-point win over 2-10 Mississippi State.

In short, one of these teams will win the Big 12, likely play the No. 5 seed on the road … and lose.

You can hate them for it, but I generally don't think they're wrong about the conference being on the weaker side this season. And they backed up everything with non-ESPN analytics.

That said, it's pretty disingenuous to essentially state "Boise State is rightfully ahead of the Big XII champ" but never mention how the Broncos stack up in these analytics.

OK, I will give you preseason rankings. Those are BS.

But if you beat the #10 team or whatever mid-season - they were considered #10 at the time the game is played. Kansas State was ranked #24 at the time the game was played. The history books have literally always given teams credit for, ya know, beating ranked teams on the day they played them.

Unfortunately, none of this matters. Agendas and narratives matter. It is easy to spin ANY of this sh*t a million different ways.

"Iowa State has a top 20 win on the road @ Iowa, huge win! Along with another top 25 win against K-State - Iowa State is a very good team"

"Iowa State has 0 wins against the current top 25 - Iowa State is not a legit team."

"Illinois got a nice ranked win against Kansas in the non-conference - great non-conference win helping to prove they deserve to be ranked NOW in the CFP."

"Kansas is sub-500 - what a terrible loss for Iowa State!"

"BYU beat SMU before they were hitting their stride, so it doesn't really count as a ranked road win."

When the win happens in the moment, yes teams get credit like you say but when it comes to actually evaluating teams at the end of the season, no teams don’t get credit.

Let’s look at Memphis in the Maui Invitational as an example. They beat UConn and MSU and jumped from being non ranked to ranked in the teens. Huge benefit like you’re talking about in the moment. However let’s say UConn only wins 3 more games the whole season and just flames out to a 10-20 record. When looking at Memphis resume for seeding they aren’t still getting credit for a quad 1 win against the former top team for beating UConn they are getting credit for a quad 3 win because UConn didn’t end up being that good. Same thing applies when splitting hairs for the CFP

I think you and I are saying the same thing, kinda. Tiebreakers hold too much weight, because conferences are too big and you can’t always get a clear-cut champion because the schedules aren‘t the same. That’s the biggest issue I have with the system right now - there’s no on-field way to adequately determine conference championship game teams, which only amplifies the arguments and conflicts over who’s “deserving.”

It stinks that Iowa State is in a four-way tie for best record in the conference with three teams that they didn’t even play. But it’s nice that the tiebreakers went our way, at least.
Perfect world, they'd reorganize into 6 ten team conferences with round robin scheduling and the top 2 from each conference would get an automatic bid. More perfect world and it would be top 3 and 6 wild cards.

Well, if CFP follows AP, ASU will get the #4 and first round bye.

Would go:

#2: Georgia
#3: Boise
#4: AZ State
#5: Notre Dame
#6: Texas
#7: Penn St
#8: Ohio St
#9: Tenn

Saban already making his case for Alabama.

If he had his way... nobody outside of the SEC or B1G should get in because nobody else plays a tough schedule at all. Total BS.
