Really don't get the love for these Plain Janes which previously only lasted for two disappointing seasons under JO. The Fred era unis with Dribbling Cy were much more appealing and unique and it was highly disappointing the throwbacks weren't modeled after those instead.
Fred era never had the dribbling cy….What are you smoking? Those jerseys against Marquette are some of the best in basketball.

Edit: you meant when he played. But point still stands. These jerseys rock.

Yeah the Fred era ones had a ton of yellow on the sides and looked cheesy like a high school jersey. They correctly chose the classic early 90’s design to model these new ones after.

One other thing on the bball uniforms and then I'll shut up. I could be wrong on this but everything looks like embroidered on patches vs ironed on stickers of our normal uniforms. Idk something about it just looks higher quality too

What's plain about them? Beautiful cardinal and gold stripes love the Iowa state across the chest and a nice big dribbling Cy. They have the perfect amount going on.
They are definitely plain janes with the minimal side striping on the pants. Thank goodness they at least have the side striping unlike the WBB "throwbacks" which are unfortunately worse than the MBBs, the type of unis that a low budget, low major program would wear.

Are you looking at the same teams as the rest of us?

I think most classic era jerseys with minimal detailing were always clean, but this didnt do them any favors before the advent of HD television.

I think they look fine during game play, but they look REALLY good up close, plain Jane as they may be. At the free throw line or other breaks in the action. They just have a certain aura about them.

The 90s and early 2000s kind of went hog wild in part because of standard def. I never thought they looked as good up close or especially in person. But they WERE able to cut through the graininess on those close up or free throw line shots on standard def broadcasts much better than the classics could back then.

Agree, just absolutely fantastic.

I have been a bit confused on Nike as it seems the base template/fabric/chassis looks 'lighter' and gives a vibe of "lesser quality" than what they used to make. It might be that the jerseys, shorts, etc. are factually being made of a cheaper (less quality) material, OR it could be that it is just the purposeful trend - with a preference from players/teams that the jerseys are just more lighter and breathable instead of thicker ("better quality") and heavy.
I’m pretty sure NIKE laid off a ton of design and product teams.

I certainly remember the two years before Fred/Julo/Meyer’s arrival that the current throwbacks were worn and I was glad they got rid of them. There was good reason they lasted only 2 years.

The WBB throwbacks are embarrassing.

Those bball uniforms against Marquette we're the best ISU uniforms I've ever seen. Just beautiful

They are great. I actually love our usual home whites with the gold Cyclones on the chest, so I am hoping they keep both and wear the retros a handful of home games a year. Our current uniform set is as good as anyone in the country.

...well, other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Sigh.

Anyways, two uniform-related matters...

Think we'll finally see the gold pants against The U down in sunny Orlando?

:jimlad:

Interesting the MBB team hasn't worn a red uniform yet this season --

White = 5 (4 the "normal" look and 1 the "throwback" against Marquette)
Gold = 3

I assume ISU and Iowa will do the now semi-traditional cardinal v. black in Iowa City.

I think we are nearing the time. Pick our Cyclone logo, similar to the original '80's Cyclone.

Here is the original 1984 logo, followed by the "@amestoplease adaption". It's a great modern adaptation. Make it a one-color, instead of the two-color above. We could stop right there and adopt it as another secondary logo. Add it to the cursive "Cyclones".

Or we could modify it a little more, but not too much, it's already just about right. Here is one of my past attempts.

Knock out the retro Cyclone, add it to the cursive "Cyclones" which now appears to be more and more 'official'.

Then go for the Trifecta, Walking Cy! We could have some fun here.

We would instantly have four of the best logos the the conference, IMO.

Cant explain it but I love the 81-82 ISU with the lines. It's so stupid but I've got one of the mini helmets with this logo at my house
It was not a bad look/logo. The problem during that time, before and after, was that there was no continuity, no branding, too many changes to the look and brand. Our reputation suffered.

Couple that with the direction of the athletic department and the frequent losing records, and it was a bit embarrassing.
