I'm not questioning that we have a good staff and a solid program but rather can we win championships the way we are currently doing things.
ISU is probably never going to go into any season being the favorite to win the championship.

If/when they do, it will because they get more out of less and overachieve.

Recruiting is a two way street, and ISU can only sign guys willing to come to Ames.

Facinating…”the good staff and way we are doing things” not only got us here, it includes what you are somehow trying to call out.
I'm just concerned we are going to miss a very important opportunity which might not last long with the way athletes are changing all of the time. I've been a die hard my whole life , over 40 years and have seen some horrible teams and just want to get to the top of this conference because we are not that far away.

In the entire history of Iowa State we have never been more equal or as close in resources as our conference mates. We are one year into it and have already made a championship game.

Who else isn't impressed? We won't win big 12 titles with these guys against Colorado and az state. I am hoping to be wrong but seems like we're not reaching for talent to get us to the playoffs

The most talented players on paper aren’t always the best players for the team. If it were, teams like aTm would have a ton of championships by now, Colorado be in the CCG, Alabama would have made the playoff.

The players Campbell has proven to go after are high motor, high character, high floor players.

Since we were in the Big12 Championship Game, isn't the obvious answer YES. IMO we laid an egg against ASU and a big part of that was 3 turnovers.

But to think the coaching staff is satisfied and aren't looking for ways to get better is wrong.

Other than throwing the baby out with the bath water, what are you looking for the staff to do?

I am amazed how people think this is just the matter of pushing a few buttons and POOF you win it all.

There are 15 other institutions just as competitive as ISU all wanting the same thing. ISU is in the top 2-3 of those as far as success under CMC/JP. Tuning or a few tactical maneuvers are needed, not a complete overhaul of the system.

Didn't Bacon do some of this in last year, from his LBer position? I seem to remember him doing a pretty good job blitzing now and then. My memory could be wrong, I'm sure.
We have to find somebody to be effective in that next year. Our pass rush looked really bad for all of the year. And I get that we aim to get more picks than sacks but the point still stands. We were around 113th nationally in sacks, and that sucks.

Our defense had a really good points per game avg this year. What i will point to though - is that Kansas and Arizona State were the best two offensive teams we played this year, and our D got destroyed in both those games.

What is your formula to improve the program? Seriously, not knocking you. Do you have something in mind that our people are not doing now?

My take is that we are in an exceptionally fine position for Iowa State:

We have an AD who is remarkably adept at financing and building infrastructure, and budgeting with great skill. He has been nationally recognized for these abilities (wasn't there a big-time article about this within the last several months?) And Cy Town. And. . . .

And coaching staffs with elite people qualities, a key at Iowa State, imho. In football the Clones made it into the Top 10 this season, won a record 10 victories, made it to the Big 12 Championship. And our men's cagers? Ranked third in the nation. Fennelly and Dresser, solid.

Me, I'm more than happy to see what the football staff can do with the 10-win season going forward. It's a big step, those 10 wins. We'll see.

Take a look at your glass, it's leaking.

Should we really waste money on a pass rushing DE if we stick with the 3 man front? That's the main issue. 3 rushers going up against 5 OL and sometimes a TE makes putting pressure on the QB nearly impossible. If I'm a high school edge rusher... I would not go to ISU and play in this scheme.
The thing is NFL personnel people are a lot more sophisticated than fans looking at sack numbers. There’s a reason McDonald got picked where he did after a season with 5 sacks. There are a ton of guys in college that can put there hand on the ground on the edge in a 4 man front and put up some sacks. There’s also a reason P4 guys that put up double digit sacks get picked 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds and beyond.

To some degree, I get feeling apprehensive about not missing the opportunity, but I like to think that this isn't going to be a repeat of 2021 in the upcoming season. But as a fan I can understand that to a degree.

Heck, this whole season for the Lions I'm watching side eye form time to time since pat of me is worried last years NFC title game was our moment.

And like with the Seahawks and not giving it to Lynch, there ae no guarantees. No matter what you do.

But I do think we ae in a strong position moving forward. I know that's highly scientific and backed by empirical data but that is my position.

Our program is in great shape. Everyone is doing a very good job. I just want more . I remember being at 1st bowl win in Phoenix in 2000 .Absolutely amazing memories. I was lucky enough to be there in person for the 1st 10 win season this year. I always want more just like most I think? I'm confident our players do too.
