They would have still needed to gain more yards and kick a FG. It wasn’t a certainty. But it definitley cost them a chance to win in regulation. I would have been livid if that happened to ISU.ASU wins that if they called targeting correctly.

“real fans” are often fans of college football the same way “real” nfl fans still watch playoff games and the superbowl when their team isn’t in it.
I don’t think it’s that deep.To me from one view it definitely looks like he lowers the crown at the last minute and I'd call it top of the helmet.
From the first/live view I thought it was pretty straight up.
The replay officials clearly are not up to the task of calling this consistently, it's time to end the experiment or at least reduce the penalty. Another thing they could do is "if it's close, it's targeting".
Majority of people that watch the Super Bowl aren't what I would call fans of football. Its kind of an American tradition to watch the Super Bowl.“real fans” are often fans of college football the same way “real” nfl fans still watch playoff games and the superbowl when their team isn’t in it.
Look at it this way. If the ball got batted down and someone hit a receiver like that, wouldn't it be a penalty? I sure if it was a burnt orange jersey the call would be made.I was also wondering that... but I don't think just because a ball was tipped means you can just lay out a defenseless receiver, right?
I said the defenseless receiver is waved due to it being tipped. I don’t think it was crown of the helmet. Was it helmet to helmet, yes. I also agree that this targeting rule is poor. I don’t think the defender was intentionally trying to target the receiver, if they would have called targeting I would not have been surprised. I have seen that specific hit being waved off more and more.So it's not a helmet to helmet hit because the ball was tipped? That's a scary thought.
I don’t think it’s that deep.
It’s clear Targeting. It was obvious in real-time, it was obvious after review, and its crystal clear an hour later. It would have been a HUGE call that went against Texas. A business decision was made to ensure a call of that magnitude would NOT go against Texas. And there will be ZERO repercussions for it. The officials (and the powers that be) will sleep well tonight.
Not really sure what this has to do with the Targeting call. To reiterate, the Targeting on the play today (that should be been called, very obviously) has no relation - in any way - to the ball being tipped. It is silly and disingenuous to keep referencing a tipped pass. You can’t target but if the ball is in the air, you are taught to hit the receiver so he can’t catch it if you don’t think you have a shot at it. Once it’s tipped they are no longer a receiver.
The easiest example is, can a QB throw a forward pass to themselves with no one touching it? No. Has to touch someone else.
Thats why I said it waved defenseless receiver and didn’t say it waved targetingOn the second point - it was a tipped ball. Umpire signaled it immediately. This would erase any PI calls, but not targeting. The receiver is still considered to be defenseless while trying to make a play on the ball.
You aren't getting it.... yes you can interfere with a receiver if the ball is tipped... but you still cannot lower your head and hit them helmet to helmet and target them. It's two different things. It was targeting... plain and simple. He did lower his head before contact. You can’t target but if the ball is in the air, you are taught to hit the receiver so he can’t catch it if you don’t think you have a shot at it. Once it’s tipped they are no longer a receiver.

Everyone knows that farts smell best at sunset. Peak fart sniffing is desired at the transition between 3rd and 4th quarter.I think it’s too funny that pasadena selfish rule about wanting to see sunset at a particular time In the game probably cost them some viewership.
This is exactly why you give preferential seeding to the conference champions. The other thing ASU just proved is that Auto-bids are fine. The 12 team format is fine. These byes are the only thing keeping the conference championship games relevant in the BIG and SEC
The people with gripes need to shut up and win their games. Don’t like the bye? Win your games. Think you deserve a bid with 3 losses? WIN YOUR GAMES
It doesn't have an impact on today's games, no. It does add to the viewership numbers of conferences that are trying to snuff us out. I'll follow the scores, but I'm absolutely done contributing to the machine this year.
ASU earned its wings as a Big 12 member. The Big 12 is showing out in the post season.
Even with the ASU loss they showed they belonged on the field with almighty Texas.
Like Kansas used to and ISU used to and KSU used to.....
