There was a time where most NFL coaches came from college. Now it's more of a rare thing. They are different employment pools for the most part.It's not an accident that a lot of successful college coaches have completely flopped in the pros. They didn't stop being good coaches - it's a different skill set in the pros.
College you are the CEO, the main motivator, a teacher, therapist, etc. - a lot of hats. NFL coaches really just need to be good managers. Pro athletes don't have any patience for the micromanager types you get in college.
And I don't understand why NFL teams continue to think they can hire the up and coming college coach and it will magically work better for them. The best NFL coaches are guys that paid their dues and worked their way up through various assistant jobs. Matt LaFleur is a good current example.

The NFL coaching pool is amazing. Guys fail at one spot and still are considered for the next job like that failure didn’t happen. Why do they recycle failed coaches so often and not go out looking for new candidates?

I mean he took them to two straight AFC championship games with Mark Sanchez as QB. Couldn’t have been that bad.It sounded like the Jets interviewed Rex Ryan for the job, correct? If so, that's all you need to know about the Jets organization... it's worthless.
I don't want him to go anywhere, but if he feels now is the time and can get an NFL gig best of luck to him. Not sure that's the organization I'd choose, but he'd be a legend if he turned them around.

The culture there is awful. Problem is, Woody is the culture. It's a circus. And CMC, nor any other coach, is going to change that. Hell, he had a 17 year old making decisions this season, and apparently nixed a trade for a good WR because his Madden rating wasn't high enough. The problems with the Jets start and end with Woody Johnson.The Jets don't seem to have the best culture. So would Woody bring in a "culture guy" to fix it?
No one is selling culture more than Matthew Allen Campbell currently.
Not sure anyone would want the Jets job unless they needed a paycheck or out of complete desperation.
