If BIG and SEC were to offer back Big 8 defectors, would we take back NU, MU, OU?
I’d take nebby and Mizzou back in a heartbeat. Short drives plus we’ve been a better program than both recently

I knew OSU would be heavy favorites but I was a little surprised with Vegas’ 9.5 point spread. Leonard will have to play clean if ND hopes to cover.

Wonder how this CFP will reinforce or change certain coaching strategies. Specifically end of half and goal line offense. Georgia and penn state being aggressive with 35 seconds left in half or game. And sark trying to be cute at the one yard line.

This says a lot. Texas got two first and goals at the two, with the PI calls. My thought is: you wanna throw, try that on 1st down. 2nd and probably 3rd downs you pound it on the ground, QB sneaks are the best because the ball doesn’t go backwards, but hand it off of you want. 4th down is dealer’s choice depending on how close you are by then. But don’t try to run it any further outside than off tackle, especially against a fast defense like Ohio State, and especially especially not with a deep pitch that makes the RB start with the ball at the 10 or 12 yard line.

No SEC in the Championship game. I guess Lane Kiffen's quotes about the mighty and powerful SEC did not age well. The SEC was the biggest fraud this season.

"It’s ridiculous, the difference of playing in the SEC and the ACC and Big 12… To think that you’re looking at schools and you’re talking about, like, Clemson’s schedule and who they played over Alabama,” said Kiffin. “It’s stupid. I’m not gonna name them. Take some of those teams that are up there that haven’t played anybody and put them down in the SEC, they’re .500 teams.”

SEC scheduled 8 conference games while the Big 12 went with a 9 game conference schedule.
It was that strong, draining SEC schedule that did them in. Week in and week out they’re playing high-stress, physical, exhausting games against top-level conference opponents like Kentucky and Vanderbilt, of course that’s going to wear them down, particularly in a multi-game playoff system like this. Teams that get “gimmes” against the likes of Purdue and Northern Illinois will naturally have an advantage over SEC teams with games against … Mercer and UMass (in November!).

Probably not. Most coaches like to make easy things difficult and over think everything. However, there is an exception to the rule. Marcus Freeman was very methodical about making first downs when he needed them in the Orange Bowl. I like that in a coach.

Standings aside, you honestly think they were only the 4th best Big 10 team? They beat Indiana, Penn St, and Oregon handily.

Their only loss was by 1 on the road and in their rivalry game which as we know with Iowa-ISU anything can happen.
Where you finish at the top in these super conferences can be a little misleading depending on what teams you played/avoided and then all the weird tiebreakers

I'll be so happy to watch one of these teams (tOSU or ND), and their fans crying, if they get absolutely destroyed in a blowout... but will be upset watching the other team, and their fans, celebrate a championship.

Hate them both so much.

Where da South???

In terms of FBS, the fact that everyone is paying players can be used to offset advantages in location, history/prestige are not good for the SEC. Plus losing Saban

The SEC brand is going to lose some value in this era imo. The days of so many kids from the south defaulting to a southern school and sitting on the bench until being an upperclassman are over imo

Which is probably why they’re in such a rush to get 4 autos

Well, they finished in 4th place, so I will take the B1G at its word. :) Plus, rivalry or not, losing to 6-5 Michigan at home was a stinker, and it counted.

That being said, I get the point. Ohio State is not a normal 4th place team talent wise. Moreover, I would have been okay with 3rd place Indiana being left out - since Ohio State beat them like a drum head to head.

NOW, to give the B1G their flowers, they have performed extremely well in the Post-season (CFP + Bowls). Not a stinker performance in the lot. I think the B1G is clearly the best conference in CFB this year.
