We'd have more assists if we made shots.

/Captain obvious
Our 3 attempts were primarily on the dribble & contested step backs. We only had a couple catch & shoots, but missed them tonight. But to me it doesn't appear we have many catch & shoot opportunities to begin with. Dribble drive & kick, but that's been too easy for teams to defend. KU's came a lot from their bigs going inside-out or across the court, by design. We do not seem to have many by design. The probability of a shooter making a 3 doubles if they are receiving it after a pass down low & all they are doing is stepping into the pass, catching & shooting. This is why our structure on offense leads to nights like tonight & WV. Passes are faster & more difficult to close out versus when a player puts the ball on the floor, which we do far too much of. Just my opinion

I'm not sure what ISU can do scheme wise on offense with the guys available but the non-change that's bad was the leaky defense/rebounding again which TJ rattled about on Saturday.
My only thought is off the ball movement or quick hitters. If you don’t have the ball you don’t move on this offense. It’s all high handoff/dribble drive. The problem is they have no fear of our bigs and hard hedge and dare our guards to drop it off. I mean we had Dishon not even looking at the rim unguarded 10 feet out tonight.

I am most disappointed that there seemed to be zero attempt to change anything. Just kept rolling with it.
I thought they really made the game more physical and let the bigs force the offense down low in the second half, which worked. They were at least able to play KU evenly that way. Already in a massive hole though, weren't going to catch up with twos at that point, especially when they couldn't seem to string stops together.

That’s kinda TJ’s whole thing though…

And I’m not being critical but like that specifically is like his CORE “thing” - i.e. daily habits, never change, be boring, etc.

Off ball movement seems to be a big weakness in Otz coaching, IMO

Just like I have my opinion of what’s needed in the women’s team, my opinion is lack of ball movement and easy shots are KILLING this team. Not sure why this is so hard. You see KU make 2-3 extra passes and have dudes shooting set shots?
Ball movement and off the ball movement is just non existent, I have no idea what they are trying to do offensively in the half court anymore. Really bizarre.

No mid range jumpers either. I know from an analytics perspective it is frowned upon.

But when this team is doing well it has a nice amount of 12 footers.. It has turned into 3 or just try to get it off the glass.

Maybe my memory is not functioning, but it sure seemed like they were taking more mid range shots. Maybe that was mostly Milan that did it

I pissed my weekend away working, and left for work at 0430 this morning, so after a couple of beers, when my son asked me to sit with him in his room after reading him some stories, I passed right out and missed the first half

I think the problem is that I haven't watched any games with my little buddy in a couple of weeks. He really gets into it.

Also, I'm out of beer.

We missed a lot of open shots.

One aspect I was thinking about during the game is how many of our guys are new to high major basketball. Dishon, JJ, Heise, Chatfield. This schedule is a grind. There’s no Evansville. There’s no San Francisco. There’s no Portland. You can see where they’d hit a wall having to go into these environments and play this level of completion without any real respite.
