Or we could embrace the history of Black and add silver and gold like our original colors were, and officially list them as alternates, as well as Tertiary Blue, and recognize them as official alternate colors from our history.

Fun fact the tertiary blue we wore during the 90s was not the only time we wore blue. When Veenker arrived from Michigan he brought their colors with him, and we wore Blue and Gold at least for his first year here , not sure if we wore them in his other years.
Whaaaaaaaaaaa??

Bluniforms just got some new legitimation!!!

Dressed out in the Maize and Blue of Michigan rather than Cardinal and Gold, Iowa State's football team wins five of its first six games and the Cyclones are the talk of the Midwest. Iowa State finishes second in the Missouri Valley Conference in one of the great reversal of fortunes in Cyclone history. B Roger Bowen and B **** Grefe earn All-Big Six honors.

Did not know this. That would be Colorado's color scheme, and they've always had cool uniforms.

The colors haven’t always been cardinal and gold.

The original colors – silver, gold and black – were decided in 1891.

“The college colors are thought by all to be a wise choice, and the committee deserves our praise,” according to an 1891 issue of Iowa Agricultural College Student, a former name of the Iowa State Daily.

“The first, silver, denotes the mechanical department on which is engraved in violet colors the letters IAC. Next, gold, which signifies the golden harvest which is claimed by the generals. Last, black, denotes death, assigned to the veterinary department who kill but never cure.”

Then the colors changed for the first time in 1899.

“The matter of colors has proven a stumbling block, and this is not to be wondered at. As we have stated before, the silver, gold and black are approaching their last days. They are pretty, but absolutely impossible to use in any way that would uniform our athletes … so the colors adopted for a college athletic team determine what shall be the colors of the college. It follows then, that we should be very careful in this matter … we should be conservative and careful in this matter. What the council does now will probably hold for all time, and they must not blunder this time,” according to the Alumni Association website.

The university finally settled on cardinal and gold Oct. 10, 1899, and Iowa State had the signature color ensemble that greets students today.

“At Thursday’s council meeting, the special committee appointed to investigate and report on suitable colors for the sweaters reported in favor of a cardinal sweater with a gold letter … this is a commendable improvement and makes a distinctive and striking set of colors. From the prominence of cardinal and gold at the Nebraska game, it is evident that common consent will very soon adopt these as the college colors,” according to the Alumni Association’s website.

Woof

Oregon equipment staff: "Wow, look at TCU! We can do better."

Guessing this is another case of letting the kids choose what to wear to school...

Or, maybe each unit got to choose a uniform element w/o knowing what the other units chose - offense chose chrome, D chose HOME & special teams, of course, chose the plain white pants
You know what? In natural light, on the field, there’s enough green on the helmet that this uni combo doesn’t look too bad. Amazing how much difference natural light can make

Anyone watching the D3 championship? Crazy how haggard some of those uniforms look—got me wondering how often jerseys & pants are replaced & what kind of repairs the equipment staff will make to preserve them before having to replace?

In my high school playing days, our helmets were a multi-color rainbow of scratches and dents at the end of the season. Should’ve taken pictures. You’d remember the hits you took by the gouges in your helmet.

I think we are nearing the time. Pick our Cyclone logo, similar to the original '80's Cyclone.

Here is the original 1984 logo, followed by the "@amestoplease adaption". It's a great modern adaptation. Make it a one-color, instead of the two-color above. We could stop right there and adopt it as another secondary logo. Add it to the cursive "Cyclones".

Or we could modify it a little more, but not too much, it's already just about right. Here is one of my past attempts.

I want this twister logo so bad. It would look so good on a helmet, too

As long as it is the gold of ND and not the taupe of BC etc.

The ND gold is much more yellow and true to actual gold, where as the gold of many others is more like metallic tan. BC, FSU, etc metallic taupe :puke: My parents had a Oldsmobile Ciera in the 80s that was metallic taupe like BC and it was gross.

Edit:Not the actual car.... just one that is very similar from the interwebs. Metallic taupe is a terrible color.
